[2012/12/02 13:51] Han Held: What more do we want to do for newbies, and (this is hard to articulate) has the focus of osgrid changed?
[2012/12/02 13:51] Richardus Raymaker: same here dan, you always get a few asset errors sometimes
[2012/12/02 13:51] Allen Firethorn: I'm having issues with NPCs coming through in an oar, but it may be operator malfunction
[2012/12/02 13:51] Tiffany Sicling: I tried to do an IAR and got slow response from asset server as high as 262340ms reply
[2012/12/02 13:51] Arielle.Popstar @bound2.dyndns.org:9005: i had to load an iar 4 times last week befor it was complete
[2012/12/02 13:51] Arielle.Popstar @bound2.dyndns.org:9005: wrong meeting
[2012/12/02 13:52] Han Held: I had all the stuff on my avi go white three or four times today, I had to constantly rebake but it settled down
[2012/12/02 13:53] Arielle.Popstar @bound2.dyndns.org:9005: you live beside the server relatively speaking Dan
[2012/12/02 13:53] KingArag0rn Daniel: better in the server Arielle :P
[2012/12/02 13:54] Allen Firethorn: whispers: we all live in the server :-P
[2012/12/02 13:54] Richardus Raymaker: you know how much noise a pile of theem make ?
[2012/12/02 13:54] dan banner: ya i live in the server
[2012/12/02 13:54] Arielle.Popstar @bound2.dyndns.org:9005: Besides if 10 people having issues and one doesnt, does that mean there isnt a problem Dan?
[2012/12/02 13:54] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: really ?
[2012/12/02 13:54] KingArag0rn Daniel: wtg Tiffany :P
[2012/12/02 13:55] KingArag0rn Daniel: thats how we were born nothing wrong with it :P
[2012/12/02 13:55] Allen Firethorn: but without the server we wouldn't have any skin either
[2012/12/02 13:55] KingArag0rn Daniel: we wouldn't be here lol :P
[2012/12/02 13:55] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: ah that is no good
[2012/12/02 13:55] Allen Firethorn: just a bunch of little orange clouds roaming around
[2012/12/02 13:55] Tiffany Sicling: actually, we would all be clouds without the server
[2012/12/02 13:56] Richardus Raymaker: white clouds
[2012/12/02 13:56] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: better a cloud than naked or is it ?
[2012/12/02 13:56] Allen Firethorn: Tiffany, if you're going to wander around in my head, please watch out for the door marked "Harem" you might get stuck
[2012/12/02 13:56] Allen Firethorn: brb
[2012/12/02 13:57] Tiffany Sicling: we start as clouds... then we have shape... then skin... then we cover up the skin. sounds like descending rather than ascending to me lol
[2012/12/02 13:57] KingArag0rn Daniel: indeed
[2012/12/02 13:57] Richardus Raymaker: and... you end as cloud
[2012/12/02 14:00] Eryn Galen: wb Allen
[2012/12/02 14:00] Allen Firethorn: and before I forget, Key, I have some phantom regions I need purged if that can go on the agenda
[2012/12/02 14:00] Tiffany Sicling: good #2 agenda
[2012/12/02 14:00] Arthur Numbanumba: Greeter group? hmm...
[2012/12/02 14:00] Allen Firethorn: ty
[2012/12/02 14:01] Mercalia Beck: is the region clean up still working?
[2012/12/02 14:01] Key Gruin: ok well, I guess we can start the meeting now :D
[2012/12/02 14:01] Richardus Raymaker: i just start to ask (its tricky) why people cant purge there own region from region list after login ?
[2012/12/02 14:01] Second Life: Arielle Popstar is online.
[2012/12/02 14:02] Allen Firethorn: if I can be done, I'm more than happy to do it myself
[2012/12/02 14:02] Greybeard Thinker: quit the region properly fixes that
[2012/12/02 14:02] Mercalia Beck: hmm does sem to be working as a dead region i left gone
[2012/12/02 14:02] Allen Firethorn: yeah I know... the server crashed on me for some reason and I couldn't get it back up
[2012/12/02 14:02] Greybeard Thinker: ouch
[2012/12/02 14:02] Arthur Numbanumba: eeew
[2012/12/02 14:02] Richardus Raymaker: grey many times people lost the uuid
[2012/12/02 14:03] Han Held: There's a way to find your region uuid, I've done it, make a region w/ that uuid and then properly shut down...
[2012/12/02 14:03] Greybeard Thinker: and how they do that I don't know Rich
[2012/12/02 14:03] Tiffany Sicling: I had a region crash and lost the UUID... I had to ask nebadon to clean it up for me before I could put new server up
[2012/12/02 14:03] Mercalia Beck: maybe look in db?
[2012/12/02 14:03] Greybeard Thinker: I think it's hasshed in the DB
[2012/12/02 14:04] Key Gruin: ok people does anyone want volunteer for the moderator seat?
[2012/12/02 14:04] Richardus Raymaker: well, people need to know betetr how to make backups. at least from the region ini file. i know how. oh it dont work, i mkae a new install. DELETE opensim
[2012/12/02 14:04] Second Life: Nebadon Izumi is online.
[2012/12/02 14:04] Han Held: We can't look in the db, but maybe there could be a way to purge the region manually from the website, the way we can purge our avis now?
[2012/12/02 14:04] Tiffany Sicling: but in my case, the server lost an HDD and was not recoverable and backup was corrupted
[2012/12/02 14:04] Greybeard Thinker: ouch again
[2012/12/02 14:04] Eryn Galen: hehe Nebs arrived...
[2012/12/02 14:04] Han Held: Richardus, I had my osgrid install hacked and deleted out from under me on my vps, even to I'm religious about making region backups...sometimes, stuff happens.
[2012/12/02 14:04] Richardus Raymaker: hi neb
[2012/12/02 14:04] Key Gruin: hey Nebadon
[2012/12/02 14:05] Allen Firethorn: hey neb, ltns
[2012/12/02 14:05] Key Gruin: ok folks we have two agenda items
[2012/12/02 14:05] Richardus Raymaker: neb, if your at the end still here i have a question
[2012/12/02 14:05] Tiffany Sicling: he's on first floor still
[2012/12/02 14:05] Arthur Numbanumba: Han... you osg install hacked? :-o
[2012/12/02 14:05] Arthur Numbanumba: sound aweful
[2012/12/02 14:05] Second Life: Walter Balazic is online.
[2012/12/02 14:05] Han Held: Arthur, the vps was hacked, and only my osgrid install and /usr/bin/mono deleted *shrugs*
[2012/12/02 14:05] Tiffany Sicling: Is it just me, or has anyone else experienced slowly disappearing INV ?
[2012/12/02 14:06] Arthur Numbanumba: Han... that's odd... i think... isn't it ?
[2012/12/02 14:06] Arielle Popstar: inv that doesnt rezz
[2012/12/02 14:06] Han Held: I thought so, yeah.
[2012/12/02 14:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: i don't dare to look in there Tiffany too messy :P
[2012/12/02 14:06] Tiffany Sicling: arielle, yes, that's part of it
[2012/12/02 14:06] Greybeard Thinker: hey Stio
[2012/12/02 14:06] Arielle Popstar: sometimes the inv can seem to vary if you use imp and another viewer
[2012/12/02 14:06] Tiffany Sicling: or you try to rez something you have and KNOW you have it, and it pops up a message saying it's not found in the Database
[2012/12/02 14:07] Allen Firethorn: I've had that Tiffany
[2012/12/02 14:07] Mika Mesmeriser: nod*
[2012/12/02 14:07] Arielle Popstar: me too had that message and it rezzes anyway
[2012/12/02 14:07] Mercalia Beck: I have had a lot things I cant rezz
[2012/12/02 14:07] Key Gruin: those kind of things are usually tempory glitches
[2012/12/02 14:07] Tiffany Sicling: I currently have 9025 items in inv. 2 weeks ago, I had almost 12K
[2012/12/02 14:07] Arthur Numbanumba: wow
[2012/12/02 14:07] Arielle Popstar: define temporary :)
[2012/12/02 14:07] Tiffany Sicling: and each day, the number seems to get smaller
[2012/12/02 14:08] Key Gruin: but losing inventory that doesn't come back is a problem
[2012/12/02 14:08] Eryn Galen: Tiffany, try manually deleting your cache folders on your harddrive
[2012/12/02 14:08] Eryn Galen: I found its usually a cache problem
[2012/12/02 14:08] Tiffany Sicling: I've done that Eryn
[2012/12/02 14:08] KingArag0rn Daniel: tax deducts cause of the economic crisis Tiffany :P
[2012/12/02 14:08] stiofain nbmcmedia: hi folks
[2012/12/02 14:08] Eryn Galen: kk Tiffany
[2012/12/02 14:08] George Equus: I get my inventory rather fast these days
[2012/12/02 14:08] Richardus Raymaker: Tiff, did you cleared inventory
[2012/12/02 14:08] Eryn Galen: hey stio
[2012/12/02 14:08] Tiffany Sicling: now most of it is old stuff
[2012/12/02 14:08] Arthur Numbanumba: hi stio
[2012/12/02 14:08] KingArag0rn Daniel: hello Stio
[2012/12/02 14:08] Key Gruin: think I'm gonna have a RL interruption so I may be afk for a bit
[2012/12/02 14:08] Aedan Charron: Hey stio
[2012/12/02 14:08] Tiffany Sicling: RiRa, clear as in how?
[2012/12/02 14:09] Richardus Raymaker: clear viewer cache
[2012/12/02 14:10] Richardus Raymaker: sorry inventory where wrong
[2012/12/02 14:10] Tiffany Sicling: I've even gone as far as uninstalling the viewer, deleting the dir, and reinstalling it
[2012/12/02 14:10] Arthur Numbanumba: hi Sheri
[2012/12/02 14:10] Arielle Popstar: and still missing 3k of inventory?
[2012/12/02 14:10] Tiffany Sicling: I had 16K 2 years ago
[2012/12/02 14:11] Sheri Zans: hi Arthur :)
[2012/12/02 14:11] Arthur Numbanumba: :-)
[2012/12/02 14:11] Tiffany Sicling: and when I came back, I had to have nebadon restore it because it was gone
[2012/12/02 14:11] Richardus Raymaker: thats a case of bitrot
[2012/12/02 14:11] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:11] Tiffany Sicling: but all I got was about 12K
[2012/12/02 14:11] Arthur Numbanumba: hi Neb :-)
[2012/12/02 14:11] Nebadon Izumi: hello
[2012/12/02 14:11] Greybeard Thinker: hey Neb
[2012/12/02 14:11] KingArag0rn Daniel: Welcome Neb
[2012/12/02 14:12] Allen Firethorn: hey neb, ltns
[2012/12/02 14:12] Tiffany Sicling: I have been making stuff... and saving a copy in inv... but the numbers of it goes down... and stuff I knew I had a while no longer is found
[2012/12/02 14:12] dan banner: hey nebadon
[2012/12/02 14:12] Tiffany Sicling: so yeah, it seems even using search in the viewer in the INV window can't find stuff I had like a few weeks ago
[2012/12/02 14:12] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: hi neb
[2012/12/02 14:12] Allen Firethorn: you might want to iar that
[2012/12/02 14:12] Tiffany Sicling: hi nebadon
[2012/12/02 14:12] Nebadon Izumi: hello, brb afk for 2-3 minutes
[2012/12/02 14:12] Mercalia Beck: maybe store stuffon a region?
[2012/12/02 14:13] Arielle Popstar: yes in the contents of a prim
[2012/12/02 14:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: always keep a backup of your inventory in the hard drive just in case Tiffany
[2012/12/02 14:13] Tiffany Sicling: IAR doesn't finish archiving..... so I tried to use HG to rez stuff on my SA... but I can't... no suitcase.
[2012/12/02 14:13] Mercalia Beck: ware house region
[2012/12/02 14:13] Arielle Popstar: or like me, put it on a local standalone for safekeeping
[2012/12/02 14:13] Arthur Numbanumba: i think the issue is "Where the hell did it all go?" ... right ?
[2012/12/02 14:13] Tiffany Sicling: so I have been beating my head on the wall LOL
[2012/12/02 14:13] Richardus Raymaker: tiffany. and the whole inventory is loaded ? because in my case with mpty inventoty i need to visit palza to let it load
[2012/12/02 14:13] Jalen Optera: and you have deleted everything out of appdata / roaming?
[2012/12/02 14:14] Tiffany Sicling: yes
[2012/12/02 14:14] Richardus Raymaker: oh about iar / oar. whats the max. size of the file
[2012/12/02 14:14] Tiffany Sicling: I hardly ever do HG anyways
[2012/12/02 14:14] Han Held: The main problem I've had with inventory is textures missing on my region, and missing photographs. Right now I've restored my region (several times lol) so that's a non-issue. and I'm able to see all the snapshots I've taken in my inventory just fine, nothing missing afaict. Just my $0.02
[2012/12/02 14:14] dan banner: seems 4.3 gb is the biggest file that .net 3.5 can load
[2012/12/02 14:14] Jalen Optera: did you try an entirely different viewer, like imp instead of fs or vice versa?
[2012/12/02 14:15] Arielle Popstar: do an iar aand load it to a standalone Tiffany
[2012/12/02 14:15] Tiffany Sicling: RiRa, when it gets to 262MB on the IAR, it starts ignoring responses from the asset server after an exception to the IAR saying the asset server is taking too long to respond... i.e. 262,000ms
[2012/12/02 14:15] Arielle Popstar: then do regular backups of new inventory to it
[2012/12/02 14:15] Nebadon Izumi: ok back
[2012/12/02 14:15] KingArag0rn Daniel: wb Neb
[2012/12/02 14:15] Greybeard Thinker: wb Neb
[2012/12/02 14:15] Arthur Numbanumba: :-)
[2012/12/02 14:15] Tiffany Sicling: wb neb
[2012/12/02 14:15] Han Held: Hi, Nebadon
[2012/12/02 14:16] Allen Firethorn: one folder at a time maybe? I know it's a pain, but it would at least protect your stuff
[2012/12/02 14:16] George Equus: Hi Nebadon
[2012/12/02 14:16] Richardus Raymaker: thats not good, i still can make iar's and the are 2.7GB
[2012/12/02 14:16] Eryn Galen: hey Neb
[2012/12/02 14:16] Sheri Zans: hi Nebadon :)
[2012/12/02 14:16] Tiffany Sicling: so I am at a loss on this... last resort I have is to rez everything I have on region and take an OAR (If that will work too)
[2012/12/02 14:16] dan banner: franzi has a huge inventory and said she had to do her iar in 9 files
[2012/12/02 14:16] Nebadon Izumi: I just made an IAR that was like 2.8gb other day
[2012/12/02 14:16] Richardus Raymaker: franzi is uhmm exception with file sizes :)
[2012/12/02 14:16] Greybeard Thinker: lol
[2012/12/02 14:16] Eryn Galen: hahahaha
[2012/12/02 14:17] Allen Firethorn: I had a problem when I tried to iar my entire inventory
[2012/12/02 14:17] Nebadon Izumi: when was last time you tried to make an IAR Tiffany?
[2012/12/02 14:17] Eryn Galen: thats putting it mildly
[2012/12/02 14:17] Tiffany Sicling: about an hour ago, neb
[2012/12/02 14:17] Nebadon Izumi: k
[2012/12/02 14:17] Eryn Galen: Franzi should try to do it by folder
[2012/12/02 14:17] Arthur Numbanumba: multiple files? how would one do that?
[2012/12/02 14:17] Tiffany Sicling: and I am running current OSG release
[2012/12/02 14:17] dan banner: specify the path arthur
[2012/12/02 14:17] Allen Firethorn: save an iar for each folder, arthur
[2012/12/02 14:17] Arielle Popstar: specify the folder
[2012/12/02 14:17] Arthur Numbanumba: aah... thx :-)
[2012/12/02 14:17] Richardus Raymaker: Arther objects seperate , textures seperate as example
[2012/12/02 14:18] Arthur Numbanumba: i c
[2012/12/02 14:18] Arthur Numbanumba: never thought of that ;-)
[2012/12/02 14:18] Tiffany Sicling: I can try to do it by folder
[2012/12/02 14:18] Allen Firethorn: I need to do that so I can get my inventory into my PR too
[2012/12/02 14:18] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 14:18] Greybeard Thinker: make sure you got nothing with odd perms first, IAR will silently fail if it sees no perm goodies
[2012/12/02 14:18] Greybeard Thinker: or used to anyway
[2012/12/02 14:18] Tiffany Sicling: I was trying 'save iar Tiffany Sicling / mysecretpass
[2012/12/02 14:18] Arthur Numbanumba: hi Timber :-)
[2012/12/02 14:18] Eryn Galen: hey timber
[2012/12/02 14:18] Timber Wolfe: hi
[2012/12/02 14:19] Greybeard Thinker: hey Timber
[2012/12/02 14:19] Timber Wolfe: hay
[2012/12/02 14:19] Richardus Raymaker: tiffany you forgot the filename
[2012/12/02 14:19] Tiffany Sicling: it was saving to the default filename
[2012/12/02 14:19] Richardus Raymaker: hi timber
[2012/12/02 14:19] Timber Wolfe: hi rich
[2012/12/02 14:19] Richardus Raymaker: oh. never use that
[2012/12/02 14:19] Tiffany Sicling: user-inventory.iar
[2012/12/02 14:19] Arielle Popstar: /=root
[2012/12/02 14:20] Sheri Zans: hi Timber :)
[2012/12/02 14:20] Timber Wolfe: hi
[2012/12/02 14:20] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: nice horns timber
[2012/12/02 14:20] Timber Wolfe: ty
[2012/12/02 14:21] Arielle Popstar: so what6s Osgrids mission
[2012/12/02 14:21] Arthur Numbanumba: ow deer
[2012/12/02 14:21] Arielle Popstar: whats
[2012/12/02 14:21] Greybeard Thinker: same as it ever was Ari
[2012/12/02 14:21] Han Held: I kinda suggested begining to discuss that...
[2012/12/02 14:22] Richardus Raymaker: osgrid mission ? testing opensim ???
[2012/12/02 14:22] Han Held: Basically, the reason I suggest that is because I keep seeing and talking to people who seem to think we're trying to recruit/retain users or grow the usership like grids such as inworldz is
[2012/12/02 14:22] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: Well I always thought of osgrid to be a great testing place
[2012/12/02 14:22] Timber Wolfe: yeah thats common assumption
[2012/12/02 14:22] Arthur Numbanumba: indeed... test bed for Opensimulator software
[2012/12/02 14:22] Han Held: Also, people I meet keep griping about stability, etc and seem to not generally understand that we're a testing grid
[2012/12/02 14:22] Arielle Popstar: i always thought osgrid a worst case scenerio for opensim :)
[2012/12/02 14:22] Nebadon Izumi: really everyone has their own goals here on OSgrid
[2012/12/02 14:23] Nebadon Izumi: its kind of impossible to say there is one broad goal here
[2012/12/02 14:23] Arthur Numbanumba: lol @ Arielle
[2012/12/02 14:23] Timber Wolfe: most run their own sims for their own specific goals
[2012/12/02 14:23] Arielle Popstar: what is the admins goals Neb
[2012/12/02 14:23] Eryn Galen: to keep it running for us?
[2012/12/02 14:23] Nebadon Izumi: heh ya pretty much
[2012/12/02 14:23] Arthur Numbanumba: \o/
[2012/12/02 14:23] Nebadon Izumi: I am not really trying to steer anyone in any direction
[2012/12/02 14:23] Han Held: I'm thinking that we should maybe make more of a push to educate people to the fact we're a -test- grid, and what testing means.
[2012/12/02 14:24] Han Held: maybe make comparisions to SL's beta grid? I'm not sure.
[2012/12/02 14:24] Arielle Popstar: and the alternatives that exist within opensim
[2012/12/02 14:24] Nebadon Izumi: I don't like really comparing us to SL at all
[2012/12/02 14:24] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:24] Han Held: But people come here expecting osg to be like inworldz or something...
[2012/12/02 14:24] Arthur Numbanumba: a "What is OSgrid about" sign on LBSA maybe... to point them to ?
[2012/12/02 14:24] KingArag0rn Daniel: amen Neb
[2012/12/02 14:24] Mika Mesmeriser: like maybe have the mission statement at lbsa
[2012/12/02 14:24] Arielle Popstar: good idea Mika
[2012/12/02 14:24] KingArag0rn Daniel: sl is banned from our dictionary :P
[2012/12/02 14:24] Richardus Raymaker: SL not beta is still a beta grid to.. especially last time. i think SL is the same as osgrid with problems now.
[2012/12/02 14:24] Greybeard Thinker: or on the web site in the about section?
[2012/12/02 14:24] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: good idea Mika
[2012/12/02 14:24] Richardus Raymaker: only osgrid say where testing..
[2012/12/02 14:24] Mika Mesmeriser: yes
[2012/12/02 14:25] Timber Wolfe: nods, cause it seems like theres a number of people, more than before who think the admins are here to be playground monitors and deal with personal gripes and complaints, and almost expect them to be like paid staff members in that regard like you'd find in SL, IW etc
[2012/12/02 14:25] Arthur Numbanumba: Rich... i have that feeling too... definitely
[2012/12/02 14:25] Han Held: IMO the web site "about" section is a lil too obscure, I'd be in favor of something in lbsa saying "we're a test grid, this is what testing means"...
[2012/12/02 14:25] Han Held: something that is out there and direct.
[2012/12/02 14:25] Nebadon Izumi: Ya all of the admins are Volunteers
[2012/12/02 14:26] Richardus Raymaker: some one need to give admins a swat suite :)
[2012/12/02 14:26] Greybeard Thinker: and our admins have more to worry about than keeping kiddies in line
[2012/12/02 14:26] Arthur Numbanumba: lol
[2012/12/02 14:26] Tiffany Sicling: how about some 'no whining' signs ?
[2012/12/02 14:26] Greybeard Thinker: lol
[2012/12/02 14:26] Timber Wolfe: I know it, most of us know that, but new ppl log in and think they are logging into an IW, Avination , 3rd rock grid type place where they can expect "employees" to jump the hoops
[2012/12/02 14:26] Bruce.Patton @metaversesims.net:9000: lol
[2012/12/02 14:26] Eryn Galen: lol Tiff
[2012/12/02 14:26] Timber Wolfe: no whining signs are good
[2012/12/02 14:26] Han Held: There's a mentality I'm seeing that percives osgrid as being more professionally oriented than maybe it is? That expects professional tech support and professional guidance and professional stability and general hand-holding
[2012/12/02 14:26] Eryn Galen: most newbs wouldnt know what to think of no whininh signs though
[2012/12/02 14:27] Han Held: no, I hate the idea of "no whining" signs, that's too "edgy" and counter productive
[2012/12/02 14:27] Tiffany Sicling: Han: SL doesn't even provide that
[2012/12/02 14:27] Arthur Numbanumba: on paper it does
[2012/12/02 14:27] Timber Wolfe: they may expect customer support, but not know that it involves 100% volunteerism ONLY
[2012/12/02 14:27] Jalen Optera: /me whines that no one who is whining thinks they are whining
[2012/12/02 14:27] Allen Firethorn: sure if you're a premium member
[2012/12/02 14:27] KingArag0rn Daniel: how about a support department from persons that like to help others?
[2012/12/02 14:27] Arielle Popstar: any place that advertises no this or that usually has plenty of it
[2012/12/02 14:27] Richardus Raymaker: professional stability.. thats impossible task here with 100's of server owners
[2012/12/02 14:27] Arthur Numbanumba: Allen... true
[2012/12/02 14:27] Timber Wolfe: king that sounds like a mentor style system
[2012/12/02 14:27] Han Held: What Arthur said, also ppl get confused b/c if you're a premium member in SL, you get support
[2012/12/02 14:27] KingArag0rn Daniel: individuals
[2012/12/02 14:27] Tiffany Sicling: well, if no whining signs... then the general 'if it's broke, you get to keep the pieces' instead? hehe
[2012/12/02 14:27] KingArag0rn Daniel: that love to help other solve their problems
[2012/12/02 14:28] Timber Wolfe: theres groups for member to member type support
[2012/12/02 14:28] Arthur Numbanumba: /me looks at Grey's tag
[2012/12/02 14:28] Richardus Raymaker: Tiffany use ductape when things crack"
[2012/12/02 14:28] Timber Wolfe: but I dont think members can post a NOTICE to them
[2012/12/02 14:28] dan banner: the best help a new user gets in SL is from 3rd parties
[2012/12/02 14:28] Greybeard Thinker: if it's tech problems, no worries, if it's headcase issues, they can work it out themselves
[2012/12/02 14:28] Han Held: Tiffany a sign that says "osgrid is here to test features of opensim. you can run your own regions or use public ones. if something breaks you get to keep both pieces" would be good.
[2012/12/02 14:28] Jalen Optera: yes, NCI, Builders Brewery, they are better than sl staff
[2012/12/02 14:28] Han Held: at least a good start.
[2012/12/02 14:28] Tiffany Sicling: 3rd parties, wiki, forums, psychiatrist, etc.
[2012/12/02 14:28] Allen Firethorn: you know if it hadn't been for greybeard, I would still be trying to figure out why I couldn't teleport to my region. I'm willing to pay that forward myself
[2012/12/02 14:29] Timber Wolfe: if you cant post a notice to such a group and you cant tell who if anyone is logged into it, its ashot in the dark posting an IM to the group chat
[2012/12/02 14:29] Arielle Popstar: i do think osgrid could promote more about opensim alternatives for architecture
[2012/12/02 14:29] KingArag0rn Daniel: an orientation sim helps in that case for those new in osgrid too
[2012/12/02 14:29] Richardus Raymaker: Well, support would maby work better in osgrid. when groups work
[2012/12/02 14:29] Greybeard Thinker: as for signs in Lbsa, my experience is, you have to hit peoplke with them before they even see them most times
[2012/12/02 14:29] Nebadon Izumi: ya I don't like the idea of too many signs at Lbsa Plaza
[2012/12/02 14:29] Jalen Optera: the spinning glowing arrow to LM's doesnt even work
[2012/12/02 14:29] dan banner: king: we have one, nobody uses it
[2012/12/02 14:29] Tiffany Sicling: grey: true
[2012/12/02 14:30] Nebadon Izumi: I do not think that will generally help people
[2012/12/02 14:30] KingArag0rn Daniel: i hear ya dan
[2012/12/02 14:30] Richardus Raymaker: lol grey. big signs !
[2012/12/02 14:30] Timber Wolfe: signs stay grey a long time till all load
[2012/12/02 14:30] Allen Firethorn: there's an orientation sim?
[2012/12/02 14:30] Arthur Numbanumba: Dan... we do?
[2012/12/02 14:30] Arielle Popstar: or put it in a welcome to osgrid notecard
[2012/12/02 14:30] Nebadon Izumi: i dunno how many times ive seen people standing next to a big sign asking where is this sign at
[2012/12/02 14:30] Nebadon Izumi: there literally standing right next to it
[2012/12/02 14:30] KingArag0rn Daniel: lol Neb
[2012/12/02 14:30] Timber Wolfe: lol
[2012/12/02 14:30] Greybeard Thinker: yep
[2012/12/02 14:30] Arielle Popstar: the greeters start handing them out
[2012/12/02 14:30] KingArag0rn Daniel: whats the orientation sim name dan?
[2012/12/02 14:30] Han Held: Ok, am I the only one whose encountering people with inaccurate expectations of osgrid?
[2012/12/02 14:30] Richardus Raymaker: Arielle. notecards ?!! most dont read it
[2012/12/02 14:30] Nebadon Izumi: OSgrid Welcome Station
[2012/12/02 14:31] KingArag0rn Daniel: thank you Neb
[2012/12/02 14:31] Greybeard Thinker: the nopt yet finished Welcome Station>\?
[2012/12/02 14:31] dan banner: osgrid welcome station
[2012/12/02 14:31] Nebadon Izumi: we could maybe figure out some way to utilize that region more
[2012/12/02 14:31] Arielle Popstar: oh maybe if foreign
[2012/12/02 14:31] Arthur Numbanumba: Han... no, you're not
[2012/12/02 14:31] Eryn Galen: yes, we have a station, but its not really finished.
[2012/12/02 14:31] Eryn Galen: but that brings me to my topic
[2012/12/02 14:31] Nebadon Izumi: ya, the problem is the train
[2012/12/02 14:31] Eryn Galen: revitalization of the Greeters group
[2012/12/02 14:31] Arielle Popstar: i think a notecard people would read
[2012/12/02 14:31] Timber Wolfe: the grid shouldnt have to do the basic SL instruction on things like how to move forward, backwards, turn, fly, teleport etc, someone THAT new should maybe go to one of the paid grids better setup for that kind of kindergartden level instruction
[2012/12/02 14:31] Nebadon Izumi: we could certainly expand more on that region
[2012/12/02 14:31] Allen Firethorn: good to know
[2012/12/02 14:31] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 14:31] Arielle Popstar: why not timvber
[2012/12/02 14:31] Nebadon Izumi: Warren is unlikely to do any more to it at this point
[2012/12/02 14:31] KingArag0rn Daniel: it would be good if we find volunteers for the welcome sim then
[2012/12/02 14:31] Eryn Galen: Timber, yes they do, there are quite a few who come in that have never been in SL
[2012/12/02 14:31] Arielle Popstar: for some it is their first exposure
[2012/12/02 14:32] KingArag0rn Daniel: so when people come in they see someone aroound
[2012/12/02 14:32] Nebadon Izumi: maybe we could do something with NPCs there as well
[2012/12/02 14:32] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:32] Nebadon Izumi: I just don't have the time really
[2012/12/02 14:32] Greybeard Thinker: I'd be happy to sit there a few hours a day if it was the noob login point
[2012/12/02 14:32] KingArag0rn Daniel: as i remember from the past i come in and there's noone around
[2012/12/02 14:32] Han Held: Doesn't inworldz have a mentors program? Could we use their model for one of our own?
[2012/12/02 14:32] Timber Wolfe: here,a new person to the grid is served well if they already know how to do the basics but need help setting up a REGION and doing the port forwarding things
[2012/12/02 14:32] Arthur Numbanumba: /me agrees with Grey
[2012/12/02 14:32] KingArag0rn Daniel: that tends to make people leave
[2012/12/02 14:32] Arielle Popstar: then delegate Neb
[2012/12/02 14:32] Timber Wolfe: IW has a mentor program
[2012/12/02 14:32] Timber Wolfe: as does avination
[2012/12/02 14:32] Tiffany Sicling: IW always have people there to gree n00bs
[2012/12/02 14:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: thats commercial grid Tiff
[2012/12/02 14:33] Timber Wolfe: IW was overwhelming with that
[2012/12/02 14:33] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 14:33] Arielle Popstar: noone asking you to do it all but just point to someone to do it
[2012/12/02 14:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: ofcourse they have greeters
[2012/12/02 14:33] Han Held: Do we want to use their model? or parts of it?
[2012/12/02 14:33] Tiffany Sicling: but their grid seems to be just a social club
[2012/12/02 14:33] Jalen Optera: people here need an entirely different kind of help because most are looking to set up a region
[2012/12/02 14:33] Nebadon Izumi: I can not speak for Inworldz and Avination mentor programs
[2012/12/02 14:33] Timber Wolfe: you landed there and were inundated by half a dozen mentors each trying to vie for your attention
[2012/12/02 14:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: part of it i recommend
[2012/12/02 14:33] Nebadon Izumi: i can say, that most of the time those grids has as many or less users than we do though
[2012/12/02 14:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: true Neb
[2012/12/02 14:33] Nebadon Izumi: there retetion rate is really no better
[2012/12/02 14:33] Han Held: notices we have an average of 60-150 ppl, avination has...less.
[2012/12/02 14:33] Timber Wolfe: having half a dozen people flock around you when you land is NOT good
[2012/12/02 14:33] Richardus Raymaker: IW mentor program seems to give som money.. hard to copy
[2012/12/02 14:33] Greybeard Thinker: true
[2012/12/02 14:33] Arielle Popstar: osgrid retention has been dropping
[2012/12/02 14:33] dan banner: ya i hate that
[2012/12/02 14:34] Mika Mesmeriser: the truly interested ones will stay i believe
[2012/12/02 14:34] Arthur Numbanumba: when i go to Av i hardly ever see people
[2012/12/02 14:34] Arthur Numbanumba: not good
[2012/12/02 14:34] Timber Wolfe: AV only has about 500 sims now
[2012/12/02 14:34] Eryn Galen: well we do have a group, I just want to say that please contact me or dan if you are interested in donating time to help new people
[2012/12/02 14:34] Jalen Optera: I think the best noob group in sl is run by the Shelter, and that is just a private group
[2012/12/02 14:34] Arielle Popstar: i think if peepz get a region up they have a better chance of staying
[2012/12/02 14:34] Eryn Galen: we are trying to make general info available so everyone has the same level of information
[2012/12/02 14:34] KingArag0rn Daniel: it's not about the numbers of sims it's about quality guys
[2012/12/02 14:34] Nebadon Izumi: I am all for you guys helping new people
[2012/12/02 14:34] Han Held: The Shelter really helped me out when I came to SL
[2012/12/02 14:35] Eryn Galen: also, it might be a good idea to get different nationalities for people who dont speak english
[2012/12/02 14:35] Arthur Numbanumba: the Shelter is good yes
[2012/12/02 14:35] dan banner: last month we had around 66,199 logins via the splash page
[2012/12/02 14:35] Nebadon Izumi: you do not have to wait for me to delegate to be helpers and setup regions to orient people
[2012/12/02 14:35] Arielle Popstar: how many in world dan?
[2012/12/02 14:35] Richardus Raymaker: i just expanded space for a few more "shops" now only some stuff.
[2012/12/02 14:35] Timber Wolfe: what would be handy is an information region with the information on setting up a sim rather than information on how to use your arrow buttons to move left, right, fwd etc
[2012/12/02 14:35] KingArag0rn Daniel: thats my mission here Neb
[2012/12/02 14:35] Greybeard Thinker: how hard would it be to redirect noobs to the Welcome Sataion neb?
[2012/12/02 14:35] Tiffany Sicling: when I first joined SL, I went through this thing about learning how to get a shirt and put it on, clothes, etc... and editing appearance
[2012/12/02 14:35] KingArag0rn Daniel: I am even bringing people in from sl
[2012/12/02 14:35] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:36] KingArag0rn Daniel: that are tired being robbed by the lindens
[2012/12/02 14:36] Timber Wolfe: we all did that tiff
[2012/12/02 14:36] Arthur Numbanumba: me too
[2012/12/02 14:36] Timber Wolfe: you went thru a special newby island
[2012/12/02 14:36] Eryn Galen: no Timber, we didnt
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: Greybeard it wouldnt be all that hard, but I am not really sure that region should be their first experience either
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: it can take a bit to load
[2012/12/02 14:36] Eryn Galen: I came here without ever setting foot in SL
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: there is a ton of sculpty there
[2012/12/02 14:36] Timber Wolfe: well i did, you were automatically sent there on your first log ins
[2012/12/02 14:36] Tiffany Sicling: this was like, over 4 years ago too
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: its like 95% sculpty prims
[2012/12/02 14:36] Greybeard Thinker: true
[2012/12/02 14:36] Second Life: Samira Samtanko is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: but there is no reason we cant have some kind of teleporter from Lbsa Plaza
[2012/12/02 14:36] Richardus Raymaker: Tiffany, only important thing you need to know here "ctrl-alt-r":O
[2012/12/02 14:36] Timber Wolfe: orientation island i think it was called
[2012/12/02 14:36] dan banner: i have a gate at lbsa that goes there
[2012/12/02 14:36] Eryn Galen: Im just saying please dont equate new people here with ex-SL
[2012/12/02 14:36] Nebadon Izumi: that people can step into and get whisked away for deeper orientation
[2012/12/02 14:37] Allen Firethorn: the VCE set up an oar that actually has all that orientation stuff in it
[2012/12/02 14:37] Eryn Galen: increasingly with education peograms using Opensim it wont be
[2012/12/02 14:37] Key Gruin: back
[2012/12/02 14:37] Arielle Popstar: bade is running nice for me
[2012/12/02 14:37] Tiffany Sicling: RiRa, yeah. it wasn't always that way though
[2012/12/02 14:37] Arielle Popstar: 133 ping
[2012/12/02 14:37] Eryn Galen: wb Key
[2012/12/02 14:37] Nebadon Izumi: ya seems to be running good today
[2012/12/02 14:37] dan banner: there are 4 gates in lbsa
[2012/12/02 14:37] Greybeard Thinker: trouble is most noobs have tunnel vision, I even had some who won't even answer when greeted yesterday
[2012/12/02 14:37] dan banner: one goes to the welcome station
[2012/12/02 14:37] Arielle Popstar: much better then wrights 1333
[2012/12/02 14:37] Arthur Numbanumba: Allen... i think the VCE is about v1 viewers ?
[2012/12/02 14:37] Nebadon Izumi: dan and key i assume you guys have not seen that too many open files problem anymore since we made changes to linux?
[2012/12/02 14:37] Timber Wolfe: cant always tell what a newbie sees or hears on their viewer when first logging in
[2012/12/02 14:37] dan banner: sandbox plaza, wright and recreation plaza are the other 3
[2012/12/02 14:38] Key Gruin: nope Neb
[2012/12/02 14:38] Han Held: How long have those gates been there? This is the first I've heard of them...
[2012/12/02 14:38] Nebadon Izumi: good
[2012/12/02 14:38] Timber Wolfe: most of the things areound them you see may be invisible or grey to them yet
[2012/12/02 14:38] Key Gruin: not me
[2012/12/02 14:38] dan banner: no that seems to have been resolved finally
[2012/12/02 14:38] Allen Firethorn: maybe, but how hard is it to redo signs?
[2012/12/02 14:38] Mika Mesmeriser: must be 3 weeks Han
[2012/12/02 14:38] Richardus Raymaker: Grey, wich tunnelk the look ?
[2012/12/02 14:38] Timber Wolfe: i occasionally get a SIGABRT error on one instance
[2012/12/02 14:38] dan banner: like 3 weeks
[2012/12/02 14:38] Greybeard Thinker: at the emds of the runways at Lbsa han
[2012/12/02 14:38] Han Held: Ah, I haven't been here as much, might be why I missed them.
[2012/12/02 14:38] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 14:38] Arthur Numbanumba: Allen... a complete remake imo
[2012/12/02 14:38] Timber Wolfe: but only that
[2012/12/02 14:38] dan banner: noobs run down the ramps
[2012/12/02 14:38] Arthur Numbanumba: ... but not too hard indeed
[2012/12/02 14:39] Greybeard Thinker: yep
[2012/12/02 14:39] Greybeard Thinker: and still don't see the gates most times lol
[2012/12/02 14:39] Timber Wolfe: install machine guns at the bottom of the ramps to keep them in
[2012/12/02 14:39] dan banner: so i gave them something to do when they reached the end
[2012/12/02 14:39] KingArag0rn Daniel: lmao
[2012/12/02 14:39] Arthur Numbanumba: hehehe
[2012/12/02 14:39] Han Held: *laughs*
[2012/12/02 14:39] Aedan Charron: /me laughs
[2012/12/02 14:39] Richardus Raymaker: Noobs most time gehear that the need to get a basic avatar
[2012/12/02 14:39] KingArag0rn Daniel: chain them like dogs lol
[2012/12/02 14:39] Timber Wolfe: whispers: when staring down that barrel they wont move forward!
[2012/12/02 14:39] Eryn Galen: I think some of it is because everything is in english, it would be good to have a more international approach in general
[2012/12/02 14:39] Eryn Galen: Im volonteering to help ;)
[2012/12/02 14:40] Arielle Popstar: how about putting some translators in Lbsa?
[2012/12/02 14:40] Arthur Numbanumba: i good translator would be nice too
[2012/12/02 14:40] Richardus Raymaker: does the..intesstst tab working in osgrid ?
[2012/12/02 14:40] Timber Wolfe: i see english, spanish, french and german i guess
[2012/12/02 14:40] Arthur Numbanumba: lol @ Arielle
[2012/12/02 14:40] Allen Firethorn: as am I. I just need to know what to put on those signs. I'm Unconsiously aware of the controls lol
[2012/12/02 14:40] Eryn Galen: how about making some of the welcome signed multi-lingual?
[2012/12/02 14:40] Han Held: online translators? There's no free api's for one...
[2012/12/02 14:40] Key Gruin: good thing about the gates is
[2012/12/02 14:40] Arthur Numbanumba: :-)
[2012/12/02 14:40] Richardus Raymaker: opps yes it does
[2012/12/02 14:40] Timber Wolfe: google translator is real iffy
[2012/12/02 14:40] Arielle Popstar: i see people have them
[2012/12/02 14:40] dan banner: translators require an AppID now
[2012/12/02 14:40] Key Gruin: afk avatars can be pushed into them LOL
[2012/12/02 14:40] Han Held: google tranlate requires money
[2012/12/02 14:41] Greybeard Thinker: half the time those machine translations need translating anyway
[2012/12/02 14:41] dan banner: google charges money
[2012/12/02 14:41] Tiffany Sicling: google translator doesn't get it grammatically correct either
[2012/12/02 14:41] Second Life: Deanna Janus is online.
[2012/12/02 14:41] Richardus Raymaker: use the slower web one
[2012/12/02 14:41] Timber Wolfe: i translated english to german and emailed the results to a german store to buy stomething and they emailed back that they couldnt understand it..
[2012/12/02 14:41] dan banner: bing has limited use for free
[2012/12/02 14:41] Greybeard Thinker: better if we find folks who actually speak other languages
[2012/12/02 14:41] Arielle Popstar: i seen a few people in lbsa with working translators
[2012/12/02 14:41] Jalen Optera: they have to pay for them Ari
[2012/12/02 14:41] Han Held: They probably paid or are using the limited bing one is my guess
[2012/12/02 14:41] Richardus Raymaker: yes, i tried it a few datys ago.the english result sounds terrible
[2012/12/02 14:41] Arielle Popstar: no idea how though
[2012/12/02 14:41] Timber Wolfe: some of the old viewers had a translator or maybe they were huds in SL
[2012/12/02 14:41] Arielle Popstar: there is some scripted ones
[2012/12/02 14:41] dan banner: ari: until that AppID is flagged
[2012/12/02 14:42] Timber Wolfe: they worked fair if you used simple words
[2012/12/02 14:42] Allen Firethorn: phoenix had a translator, but it was powered by google
[2012/12/02 14:42] Arielle Popstar: AppID?
[2012/12/02 14:42] Eryn Galen: Im thinking of the more general stuff - go there for more info, the info notecard, but it has to be visible that its multi-lingual, not all english
[2012/12/02 14:42] Richardus Raymaker: i hate translators. most times the spam chat
[2012/12/02 14:42] dan banner: yes you have to pay for translatioons now
[2012/12/02 14:42] Timber Wolfe: you got enough accuracy in it to at least get the idea what the person was saying
[2012/12/02 14:42] KingArag0rn Daniel: right Rich
[2012/12/02 14:42] Arielle Popstar: uhm Rira...
[2012/12/02 14:42] dan banner: pay money, get an AppID
[2012/12/02 14:42] Arielle Popstar: no comment :)
[2012/12/02 14:42] Eryn Galen: so no one willing to donate some time to sit around at Lbsa?
[2012/12/02 14:42] Second Life: Deanna Janus is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:43] dan banner: i do eryn
[2012/12/02 14:43] Greybeard Thinker: I already do
[2012/12/02 14:43] Arielle Popstar: i sit there
[2012/12/02 14:43] Jalen Optera: Can I stand?
[2012/12/02 14:43] Timber Wolfe: i rarely see it vacant
[2012/12/02 14:43] Han Held: I'm willing to hlep when I'm there, but I don't want to make a formal schedule, my rl doesn't permit that
[2012/12/02 14:43] Allen Firethorn: I can. maybe for an hour or 2 a day, Eyrn
[2012/12/02 14:43] Mika Mesmeriser: yes i can spend some time there Eryn
[2012/12/02 14:43] KingArag0rn Daniel: lol Jalen
[2012/12/02 14:43] Greybeard Thinker: same here Tiff
[2012/12/02 14:43] Eryn Galen: great, any one of you speaking anything else than englisch?
[2012/12/02 14:43] Arielle Popstar: bit of dutch
[2012/12/02 14:43] Richardus Raymaker: it seems harder to help this days...
[2012/12/02 14:43] Greybeard Thinker: unless you want a beer ordered in 9 languages lol
[2012/12/02 14:43] Allen Firethorn: speaking, yes. reading and writin? no
[2012/12/02 14:44] Eryn Galen: typical, lol
[2012/12/02 14:44] KingArag0rn Daniel: lol @ Grey
[2012/12/02 14:44] Arielle Popstar: can sort of make out some german
[2012/12/02 14:44] KingArag0rn Daniel: we need someone german for that
[2012/12/02 14:44] Greybeard Thinker: I leave the German translations to my inhouse expert
[2012/12/02 14:44] KingArag0rn Daniel: and a french person etcetera
[2012/12/02 14:44] Arielle Popstar: Qandy knows a couple languages
[2012/12/02 14:44] Eryn Galen: My aim is to get the greeters to be more international, so they can answer a new person in their panguage
[2012/12/02 14:44] Eryn Galen: *Language
[2012/12/02 14:44] KingArag0rn Daniel: make it the right way guys
[2012/12/02 14:44] Eryn Galen: lol
[2012/12/02 14:44] Timber Wolfe: german and spanish seem to be the two big foreign language
[2012/12/02 14:44] KingArag0rn Daniel: or don't make it at all
[2012/12/02 14:44] Tiffany Sicling: sometimes I have to shoot my typist though
[2012/12/02 14:44] Eryn Galen: like me just now Tiff?
[2012/12/02 14:45] Richardus Raymaker: i can read german, speak it maby 6 words. i need to gte better in that
[2012/12/02 14:45] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 14:45] Arielle Popstar: most of the dutch know english good already
[2012/12/02 14:45] Arthur Numbanumba: english, german, some french, dutch (ofcourse)... a little bit of spanish and portugese
[2012/12/02 14:45] Eryn Galen: practice makes perfect, Rich ;)
[2012/12/02 14:45] Jalen Optera: There are so many languages, I think it would be more effective to have a translator group for each language and then anyone can put a call out
[2012/12/02 14:45] Tiffany Sicling: eryn: yeppers
[2012/12/02 14:45] KingArag0rn Daniel: right Ari
[2012/12/02 14:45] KingArag0rn Daniel: german too
[2012/12/02 14:45] Richardus Raymaker: thats the problem eryn. never need it
[2012/12/02 14:45] Allen Firethorn: most europeans at least understand english
[2012/12/02 14:45] Eryn Galen: Arthur, when can you start and can you do the 24/7 shift?
[2012/12/02 14:45] Eryn Galen: GRIN
[2012/12/02 14:45] KingArag0rn Daniel: yeah Allen
[2012/12/02 14:45] Arthur Numbanumba: :-D
[2012/12/02 14:45] Tiffany Sicling: lol
[2012/12/02 14:45] Richardus Raymaker: spanisch seems to appear sometimes in osgrid if am right
[2012/12/02 14:45] Allen Firethorn: that's a rougher one
[2012/12/02 14:45] Timber Wolfe: yes
[2012/12/02 14:46] Greybeard Thinker: and Portugese
[2012/12/02 14:46] Eryn Galen: well I would appreciate if you guys could spread the word
[2012/12/02 14:46] Arielle Popstar: and some potugese
[2012/12/02 14:46] KingArag0rn Daniel: yes
[2012/12/02 14:46] Tiffany Sicling: I know the bad words in like, 5 languages
[2012/12/02 14:46] Greybeard Thinker: lol
[2012/12/02 14:46] KingArag0rn Daniel: lmao Tiff
[2012/12/02 14:46] Richardus Raymaker: Bad tiffany, bad girl :)
[2012/12/02 14:46] Eryn Galen: hehe same here Tiff, even in gaelic ;)
[2012/12/02 14:46] Allen Firethorn: nice!
[2012/12/02 14:46] Tiffany Sicling: hehe
[2012/12/02 14:46] Han Held: Now there's a class we need! :D
[2012/12/02 14:46] Eryn Galen: lol, not really Allen.
[2012/12/02 14:46] Eryn Galen: swearwords around the world, Han?
[2012/12/02 14:47] Arthur Numbanumba: i have a brasilian "renter"... she loves to kiss, hehehe... but the rest we need to talk out using a translator
[2012/12/02 14:47] Han Held: mmmm-hmmm
[2012/12/02 14:47] Tiffany Sicling: but can't use them... we want people to come and stay, not run away fast
[2012/12/02 14:47] Greybeard Thinker: < old sailor, can blister paint at 100 mtrs with my bad words lol
[2012/12/02 14:47] Timber Wolfe: those are the first thing every foreign language student learns :)
[2012/12/02 14:47] Arielle Popstar: loll
[2012/12/02 14:47] Richardus Raymaker: oh eryn, you want a swearjar on lbsa ?
[2012/12/02 14:47] Arielle Popstar: lucky Arthur
[2012/12/02 14:47] Eryn Galen: hahaha Rich
[2012/12/02 14:47] Mika Mesmeriser: its seem we need to connect them with fellow country members so mabe have say some german /dutch/french regions lm's up at lbsa or in notecards
[2012/12/02 14:47] Eryn Galen: and what money would go into it, Rich?
[2012/12/02 14:47] Arielle Popstar: oh cool idea too Mika
[2012/12/02 14:47] Timber Wolfe: what about...
[2012/12/02 14:47] Eryn Galen: there is a German effort to do just that Mika
[2012/12/02 14:47] Arthur Numbanumba: Arielle... i am spoken for... i don't kiss strangers... :-P
[2012/12/02 14:47] Timber Wolfe: those "on line" indicators?
[2012/12/02 14:48] Timber Wolfe: for volunteers
[2012/12/02 14:48] Arthur Numbanumba: Rosie would skin my ass... slowly
[2012/12/02 14:48] Eryn Galen: but I would love to have that incorporated into an international effort to keep it all connected
[2012/12/02 14:48] Mika Mesmeriser: lbsa gonna be scattered with signs noone reads ;)
[2012/12/02 14:48] Allen Firethorn: I could script something up for 0SC, but I'm keeping the money :-P
[2012/12/02 14:48] Timber Wolfe: you put them on a board to indicate which volunteer/mentor whatever is on line and available
[2012/12/02 14:48] Tiffany Sicling: how about some specific areas for different languages ? (for german, click here, etc)
[2012/12/02 14:48] Timber Wolfe: someone needing help can click on one and send an IM
[2012/12/02 14:48] Eryn Galen: Im thinking more of a general approach Timber
[2012/12/02 14:49] Mika Mesmeriser: yes not wanting to segragate
[2012/12/02 14:49] Key Gruin: lol yeah I think lbsa has enough signs
[2012/12/02 14:49] Arielle Popstar: how about a scrolling sign?
[2012/12/02 14:49] Mika Mesmeriser: (sp)
[2012/12/02 14:49] Allen Firethorn: not a bad idea
[2012/12/02 14:49] Eryn Galen: we already have the greeter group, all we need is an indicator of what languages that person can speak
[2012/12/02 14:49] Arielle Popstar: so when we are bored we could read it :)
[2012/12/02 14:49] Eryn Galen: and that should be on the person
[2012/12/02 14:49] KingArag0rn Daniel: a sign can be made to show text in different languages
[2012/12/02 14:49] Timber Wolfe: I did that in SL with a board and tiles on it for people
[2012/12/02 14:49] Arthur Numbanumba: i think an "OSgrid Greeter/Helper tag would suffice
[2012/12/02 14:49] Greybeard Thinker: agrees with Eryn
[2012/12/02 14:49] Timber Wolfe: still have the scripts \
[2012/12/02 14:49] KingArag0rn Daniel: so don't litter lbsa with signs
[2012/12/02 14:49] Allen Firethorn: that could be a group tag
[2012/12/02 14:49] Eryn Galen: thats only english again Arhtur
[2012/12/02 14:49] Greybeard Thinker: I speak English, and "Strine"
[2012/12/02 14:49] Eryn Galen: Arthur*
[2012/12/02 14:49] Arthur Numbanumba: hmm
[2012/12/02 14:49] KingArag0rn Daniel: lbsa needs volunteers
[2012/12/02 14:49] KingArag0rn Daniel: not signs
[2012/12/02 14:50] Eryn Galen: so if anyone knows of a good way to maybe get some language flags to show or a line with: I speak..... that would be good
[2012/12/02 14:50] KingArag0rn Daniel: the best sign is a greeter
[2012/12/02 14:50] Eryn Galen: agreed KingArag0rn
[2012/12/02 14:50] Richardus Raymaker: in this case for 0 day noobs some atomatic attached instruction hud would help. the cant miss that. like the osgazet :O
[2012/12/02 14:50] Timber Wolfe: wear a floating green text with the info
[2012/12/02 14:51] Allen Firethorn: like maybe a titler?
[2012/12/02 14:51] Greybeard Thinker: directs KD to look at the group tags Ari and I are wearing
[2012/12/02 14:51] Eryn Galen: lol the OSGazet is not automatic Rich ;)
[2012/12/02 14:51] Richardus Raymaker: problem. how do you know you dont need to giv eit to them again ?
[2012/12/02 14:51] Richardus Raymaker: -
[2012/12/02 14:51] Arthur Numbanumba: ... i think all over the world the word "Help" is recognised
[2012/12/02 14:51] Richardus Raymaker: test
[2012/12/02 14:51] Han Held: @Eryn group tags would be useful for showing what language ppl speak
[2012/12/02 14:51] KingArag0rn Daniel: i can hangout there when i am on
[2012/12/02 14:51] Timber Wolfe: lbsa is ok, but its dark, boring, and i like my own music stream I listen to
[2012/12/02 14:51] KingArag0rn Daniel: but we need to be organised about it
[2012/12/02 14:51] Richardus Raymaker: uff, what happend. did someone used groups ?
[2012/12/02 14:51] Arielle Popstar: or an automated e-mail send when they sign up
[2012/12/02 14:51] Timber Wolfe: group tags dont display all the time unless set to in the viewers
[2012/12/02 14:51] Richardus Raymaker: No. but i mean the position of the card eryn
[2012/12/02 14:51] Arielle Popstar: lots of sites do that
[2012/12/02 14:52] Eryn Galen: Rich: ??
[2012/12/02 14:52] Timber Wolfe: a flip titler works too
[2012/12/02 14:52] Arielle Popstar: Neb?
[2012/12/02 14:52] Arielle Popstar: how about that?
[2012/12/02 14:52] Jalen Optera: when people sign up they usually come right in world though, not get mail first
[2012/12/02 14:52] Timber Wolfe: they DO get a confirmation email thono?
[2012/12/02 14:52] Eryn Galen: true Jalen
[2012/12/02 14:52] Nebadon Izumi: ya no one will read a long winded email
[2012/12/02 14:52] Richardus Raymaker: eryn, a fast loading automatic attached object center screen for new noob useers that are very young
[2012/12/02 14:53] Arielle Popstar: most sites nowadays require some activation
[2012/12/02 14:53] Nebadon Izumi: very few are likely to read the signs either hehe
[2012/12/02 14:53] Richardus Raymaker: Timber, sofar i know not
[2012/12/02 14:53] dan banner: well i'd say we're all in good shape gridwise with the exception of welcoming a few more new users?
[2012/12/02 14:53] Timber Wolfe: yes in the activation email
[2012/12/02 14:53] Eryn Galen: thats why I want to reactivate and expand the Greeters
[2012/12/02 14:53] Timber Wolfe: id say yes dan
[2012/12/02 14:53] Eryn Galen: they are already there, but majority is english only
[2012/12/02 14:53] Snik Snoodle: hi everyone
[2012/12/02 14:53] KingArag0rn Daniel: thats how i have my grid setup Arielle with activation email
[2012/12/02 14:53] Eryn Galen: hey Snik
[2012/12/02 14:53] Greybeard Thinker: hi Snik
[2012/12/02 14:53] Snakedance Moonwing2: hi snoodle :)
[2012/12/02 14:53] KingArag0rn Daniel: out
[2012/12/02 14:53] Han Held: Hi, Snik
[2012/12/02 14:53] KingArag0rn Daniel: that way i give basic s
[2012/12/02 14:53] Richardus Raymaker: hi snik
[2012/12/02 14:53] Aedan Charron: Hi snik
[2012/12/02 14:54] dan banner: hey snik
[2012/12/02 14:54] Allen Firethorn: brb
[2012/12/02 14:54] Nebadon Izumi: if someone can come up with a nice hud we can distribute at Lbsa Plaza
[2012/12/02 14:54] KingArag0rn Daniel: hb Allen
[2012/12/02 14:54] Nebadon Izumi: that might be good
[2012/12/02 14:54] Arielle Popstar: an activation email that has a mission statement for osgrid would be good
[2012/12/02 14:54] Nebadon Izumi: hud is nice because it puts focus on it
[2012/12/02 14:54] Arielle Popstar: they can translate it at their conveniebnnce
[2012/12/02 14:54] Arthur Numbanumba: i am perfectly willing to spend time at LBSA helping new arrivals on their way... in any language i dare try... ;-)
[2012/12/02 14:54] KingArag0rn Daniel: right Ari
[2012/12/02 14:54] Nebadon Izumi: and its something they attach themselves, they know exactly where it will be
[2012/12/02 14:54] Nebadon Izumi: they can also leave the sim with it
[2012/12/02 14:55] dan banner: ya thats not a bad idea
[2012/12/02 14:55] Nebadon Izumi: maybe can expand on Eryns help panels
[2012/12/02 14:55] Richardus Raymaker: can there not be really soe activation link. that you also can use for some instructions. when done the can login ?
[2012/12/02 14:55] Nebadon Izumi: and turn that into a hud of some kind
[2012/12/02 14:55] Eryn Galen: with the info from the welcome notecard Neb?
[2012/12/02 14:55] Arielle Popstar: scripts and thereore huds wont work in lbsa will they?
[2012/12/02 14:55] KingArag0rn Daniel: activation also repells rhose entering false email address
[2012/12/02 14:55] Timber Wolfe: a screen sized billboard in center spot HUD works well to get attention :)
[2012/12/02 14:55] Key Gruin: there is already a newbie information notecard loaded in lbsa, click to recieve, if people want to translate the various languages we can have a group of flags out with notecard givers
[2012/12/02 14:55] Nebadon Izumi: ya and maybe info thats on those help boards you made
[2012/12/02 14:55] KingArag0rn Daniel: those wanting to come in to do harm
[2012/12/02 14:55] Nebadon Izumi: thats a good idea too Key
[2012/12/02 14:55] dan banner: scripts work in lbsa for over a month now arielle
[2012/12/02 14:56] Eryn Galen: Key, Im working with the germans to make that board multi-lingual
[2012/12/02 14:56] Arielle Popstar: well 3 years of them not working i dont try
[2012/12/02 14:56] Key Gruin: ok Eryn sounds good
[2012/12/02 14:56] Nebadon Izumi: ya I am certainly all for you guys doing this stuff
[2012/12/02 14:56] Nebadon Izumi: but I think we need less talking about it, more just doing it
[2012/12/02 14:56] Arielle Popstar: i didnt see a sign advertising the fact :p
[2012/12/02 14:56] Key Gruin: keep us posted
[2012/12/02 14:56] Nebadon Izumi: lets see some examples
[2012/12/02 14:56] Eryn Galen: will do
[2012/12/02 14:56] Nebadon Izumi: and we can go from there
[2012/12/02 14:57] Eryn Galen: again, what info for the HUD, Neb?
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: I dunno, i guess just some newbie stuff
[2012/12/02 14:57] Han Held: Are you using the osgrid greeters group for mentoring? because it's closed membership (just tried to join)
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: maybe it has all the stuff at Lbsa condensed
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: has a button that will give you the notecard
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: had pages for stuff
[2012/12/02 14:57] Eryn Galen: nods
[2012/12/02 14:57] Timber Wolfe: yeah mission statement, where to find things,
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: gives you landmarks for various newby locations
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: where they can find some clothes etc..
[2012/12/02 14:57] Nebadon Izumi: simplify the process
[2012/12/02 14:57] Key Gruin: yeah all that info needs to be better organized
[2012/12/02 14:58] Arielle Popstar: and url for setting up a region
[2012/12/02 14:58] Key Gruin: and simplified
[2012/12/02 14:58] Timber Wolfe: lol
[2012/12/02 14:58] Eryn Galen: Han, I can invite you
[2012/12/02 14:58] Key Gruin: for sure
[2012/12/02 14:58] Timber Wolfe: some will want an added on penis too im sure
[2012/12/02 14:58] Nebadon Izumi: right, its something that can grow over time
[2012/12/02 14:58] Arielle Popstar: eeww
[2012/12/02 14:58] Nebadon Izumi: just need to get the ball rolling
[2012/12/02 14:58] Han Held: ty Eryn
[2012/12/02 14:58] KingArag0rn Daniel: right Neb
[2012/12/02 14:58] Eryn Galen: hi Ina
[2012/12/02 14:58] KingArag0rn Daniel: time for actions
[2012/12/02 14:58] Snik Snoodle: is it possible there could be a translator made available for ppl at LBSA, as I can never find mine - when I need one!
[2012/12/02 14:59] Eryn Galen: is there a good free one? Im sure the admins would place it at Lbsa
[2012/12/02 14:59] Timber Wolfe: seems they all cost money
[2012/12/02 14:59] Arielle Popstar: yes if scripts work then we could have the scripted translators
[2012/12/02 14:59] Nebadon Izumi: I don't have one
[2012/12/02 14:59] Inanna Beaumont: hi all invisibles ;-) i hope i am not on ones head
[2012/12/02 14:59] Nebadon Izumi: but there probably are some around
[2012/12/02 14:59] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is offline.
[2012/12/02 14:59] Richardus Raymaker: the only one i still have is fernando's never used btw
[2012/12/02 14:59] KingArag0rn Daniel: we can find a good one that is free around
[2012/12/02 14:59] Key Gruin: they all use google no?
[2012/12/02 14:59] KingArag0rn Daniel: all it takes a lil search
[2012/12/02 14:59] Eryn Galen: then do it King ;)
[2012/12/02 14:59] Snik Snoodle: just that I tend to have foregin ppl chat to me - and unless I use google translate - I'm kinda stumped
[2012/12/02 15:00] Arielle Popstar: i think Viv has one
[2012/12/02 15:00] dan banner: you can buy an AppID and add it to the newer viewers
[2012/12/02 15:00] Allen Firethorn: bk
[2012/12/02 15:00] KingArag0rn Daniel: i will Erin
[2012/12/02 15:00] KingArag0rn Daniel: after this meeting
[2012/12/02 15:00] Eryn Galen: wb Allen, again
[2012/12/02 15:00] Han Held: Hi, Allen
[2012/12/02 15:00] dan banner: there are a few scripted translators someone has offered with an AppID
[2012/12/02 15:00] Arthur Numbanumba: sometimes I see a translator... gives green text like es -> en ... what's that one ?
[2012/12/02 15:00] Allen Firethorn: ty
[2012/12/02 15:00] Timber Wolfe: viewer maybe
[2012/12/02 15:00] Timber Wolfe: phoenix
[2012/12/02 15:00] Arielle Popstar: Neb, what is this about :
[2012/12/02 15:00] Arielle Popstar:
[15:00] Unable to rez: problem accessing inventory or locating assets
[2012/12/02 15:00] KingArag0rn Daniel: it's a freebie from sl
[2012/12/02 15:00] Eryn Galen: ok I also have the welcome notecard already in various translations, but for some reason no french, anyone interested to do that?
[2012/12/02 15:00] dan banner: but i have my doubts how long that AppID will remain valid with everyone using the same ID
[2012/12/02 15:01] Richardus Raymaker: aha the asset is gone arielle
[2012/12/02 15:01] Arthur Numbanumba: :-o
[2012/12/02 15:01] Richardus Raymaker: i have 1 with that error to
[2012/12/02 15:01] Second Life: Elmo Figaro is online.
[2012/12/02 15:01] Allen Firethorn: I have a few of those
[2012/12/02 15:01] Nebadon Izumi: i suspect google limits how many requests any one appID can make per day
[2012/12/02 15:01] Timber Wolfe: back up your IAR's
[2012/12/02 15:01] Nebadon Izumi: its not unlimited I dont think
[2012/12/02 15:01] Second Life: Ubit Umarov is online.
[2012/12/02 15:01] KingArag0rn Daniel: right Neb
[2012/12/02 15:01] Nebadon Izumi: they don't want people reselling the ID
[2012/12/02 15:01] dan banner: correct
[2012/12/02 15:01] Arielle Popstar: i see the message even when stuff does rezz
[2012/12/02 15:01] Timber Wolfe: yeah it might flag it as a bot requesting it
[2012/12/02 15:02] KingArag0rn Daniel: google is not an option
[2012/12/02 15:02] Richardus Raymaker: then use 1 ID that listen to the translator huds. so it works only on lbsa ?
[2012/12/02 15:02] Key Gruin: Eryn, paelo argus (sp?) would do a french trx
[2012/12/02 15:02] Timber Wolfe: wish youtube cold stream in like it used to
[2012/12/02 15:02] KingArag0rn Daniel: we need something better
[2012/12/02 15:02] dan banner: ari: its a bad asset, ive had that re-occuring message too, i had to remove the item, the link in the current outfit folder and clear cache
[2012/12/02 15:03] Arielle Popstar: Dan it also appears sometimes for items which still rezz proper
[2012/12/02 15:03] Arielle Popstar: so it is risky deleting items
[2012/12/02 15:03] Arielle Popstar: maybe a timer set too short?
[2012/12/02 15:04] Timber Wolfe: sounds like a lag trigguring that
[2012/12/02 15:04] dan banner: thats possible
[2012/12/02 15:04] KingArag0rn Daniel: I'll work on finding a translator Neb
[2012/12/02 15:04] Timber Wolfe: takes too long and the error comes up and the item rezzes
[2012/12/02 15:04] Arielle Popstar: yyes maybe
[2012/12/02 15:04] Eryn Galen: anyone who can script the HUD? I can provide info for it.
[2012/12/02 15:04] Arielle Popstar: so message triggered too quickly
[2012/12/02 15:05] Timber Wolfe: probably arielle, ive seen it
[2012/12/02 15:05] Eryn Galen: Sheri, please rebake ;)
[2012/12/02 15:05] KingArag0rn Daniel: make a notecard Wryn about it
[2012/12/02 15:05] Allen Firethorn: bablefish has some potential
[2012/12/02 15:05] Timber Wolfe: you wait and wait and wait for the item to rez, that coems up and then the item rezzes
[2012/12/02 15:06] Eryn Galen: about scripting the hud?
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: Eryn*
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: yes
[2012/12/02 15:06] dan banner (en -> de): Bing scheint die beste Wette jetzt sein
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: with whats needed
[2012/12/02 15:06] Eryn Galen: ok, can do
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: a guide
[2012/12/02 15:06] dan banner: bing seems to be the best bet right now
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: i can work on that too
[2012/12/02 15:06] Eryn Galen: hehe you script? sweet
[2012/12/02 15:06] Allen Firethorn: I have a couple extra scripting hands available too.
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: i have friends in just about any matter Eryn
[2012/12/02 15:06] KingArag0rn Daniel: not only me
[2012/12/02 15:07] Arielle Popstar: how you set that up Dan?
[2012/12/02 15:07] Richardus Raymaker: hehe, i need todo it alone
[2012/12/02 15:07] Snik Snoodle: good grief - there was an agenda!
[2012/12/02 15:07] Snik Snoodle: nice!
[2012/12/02 15:07] Snakedance Moonwing2: hi beardy :)
[2012/12/02 15:07] Greybeard Thinker: hey Snake
[2012/12/02 15:07] Arielle Popstar: hey Snaky
[2012/12/02 15:07] Richardus Raymaker: hi snake
[2012/12/02 15:07] Snik Snoodle: snakey
[2012/12/02 15:07] Han Held: heya snake
[2012/12/02 15:07] Arthur Numbanumba: :-)
[2012/12/02 15:08] Snakedance Moonwing2: this my first meeting, i been sitting here quietly listening :)
[2012/12/02 15:08] Snakedance Moonwing2: carry on :)
[2012/12/02 15:08] Arielle Popstar: oh unusual :)
[2012/12/02 15:08] Snakedance Moonwing2: lol
[2012/12/02 15:08] Han Held: i'm goin afk a eat lunch and lurk
[2012/12/02 15:08] Arielle Popstar: waves
[2012/12/02 15:08] Arielle Popstar: tv Han
[2012/12/02 15:08] KingArag0rn Daniel: bon apetit Han
[2012/12/02 15:08] Arielle Popstar: tc even
[2012/12/02 15:08] Snik Snoodle: sadly I arrived late, but there will be free cups of tea and biscuits in a minute - right?
[2012/12/02 15:09] Jalen Optera: sorry
[2012/12/02 15:09] Jalen Optera: we ate them Snik
[2012/12/02 15:09] Snik Snoodle: naughty jalen! :)
[2012/12/02 15:09] dan banner: ari http://www.microsoft.com/web/post/using-the-free-bing-translation-apis
[2012/12/02 15:09] Key Gruin: this was a hungry crowd lol
[2012/12/02 15:09] Richardus Raymaker: bye han
[2012/12/02 15:09] Arthur Numbanumba: /me clicks
[2012/12/02 15:10] Arielle Popstar: instructions from MS usually need a tut :)
[2012/12/02 15:10] KingArag0rn Daniel: lol Ari
[2012/12/02 15:10] Jalen Optera: Ari just offered to write a tutorial, I heard her
[2012/12/02 15:11] dan banner: oh nice ari that will help
[2012/12/02 15:11] Key Gruin: yayyyyy Arielle!
[2012/12/02 15:11] Key Gruin: :P
[2012/12/02 15:11] Snik Snoodle: usually MS instructions need a qualified MS professional - to go along with the tut
[2012/12/02 15:11] Jalen Optera: and into dutch as well
[2012/12/02 15:11] George Equus: Tutorial is badly needed. Newbies have a very slim chance of getting going in osg to begin with, too much technicalities to deal with. You need to learn the concept of a server if you want a region set up for starters. And how to configure a router properly. Not easy. a lot is on the web but it's scattered info. I had a hard time figuring out just how to make tp work on my regions. Stio helped me with a small detail on the router config, tried for weeks without success until he gave me the last piece of the puzzle.
[2012/12/02 15:12] Snik Snoodle: /me nods - I hear you George
[2012/12/02 15:12] Nebadon Izumi: we also need to come to the realization, that not everyone will have success in OSgrid or with OpenSImulator
[2012/12/02 15:12] Nebadon Izumi: its complex software
[2012/12/02 15:12] Jalen Optera: there is a great tutorial on the forums from Sarah http://forums.osgrid.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4036&p=18260&hilit=dummies#p18260
[2012/12/02 15:12] Nebadon Izumi: i remember starting SL many years ago, literally the 1st 3 months, i had no idea what i was doing
[2012/12/02 15:12] Timber Wolfe: lots on the web and a lot outdated by years in the search results
[2012/12/02 15:12] George Equus: One need to be brave to venture in to osg!
[2012/12/02 15:12] Arielle Popstar: well new world studio app can simplify it
[2012/12/02 15:12] Nebadon Izumi: it took me months to figure out how to even link prims
[2012/12/02 15:12] KingArag0rn Daniel: me too Neb
[2012/12/02 15:12] Nebadon Izumi: lol
[2012/12/02 15:12] Eryn Galen: lol thats how I felt coming here Neb
[2012/12/02 15:12] KingArag0rn Daniel: took me 3 months to getr aquainted
[2012/12/02 15:12] KingArag0rn Daniel: back them
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: then
[2012/12/02 15:13] Richardus Raymaker: The server part most people get done. but the router....... !
[2012/12/02 15:13] Key Gruin: honesty the most effective way to help newbies is live assistance and that already happens, there's almost always someone at lbsa
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: ya, there really is not much we can do that will get people oriented their 1st day
[2012/12/02 15:13] Timber Wolfe: so many kinds of routers
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: there is just too much data
[2012/12/02 15:13] Timber Wolfe: and so many configurations
[2012/12/02 15:13] Allen Firethorn: the problem with port forwarding is that every router is different. that will take a human walk through
[2012/12/02 15:13] Timber Wolfe: and they are always changing
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: greeters is the best option Neb
[2012/12/02 15:13] Arielle Popstar: too bad adam didnt update his app
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: ya
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: walk them through
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: having a good comunity helps
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: we didn't have them back then in sl
[2012/12/02 15:13] Arielle Popstar: that worked nicely for a while
[2012/12/02 15:13] Snik Snoodle: I understood SL virtually instantly.....but it took me years to get used to the social side of it
[2012/12/02 15:13] Eryn Galen: we can get general info out and also get them a place to start researching, thats about all
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: its the only reason OSgrid is as big as it is
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: just landed in the orientation area
[2012/12/02 15:13] George Equus: upnp...
[2012/12/02 15:13] Nebadon Izumi: because we have a very helpful community
[2012/12/02 15:13] KingArag0rn Daniel: and no greeters there
[2012/12/02 15:14] Timber Wolfe: been my experience 100% of newbies trying to get a sim up run into at least the port issue and cant TP to their sim
[2012/12/02 15:14] Nebadon Izumi: ya, its very complicated stuff
[2012/12/02 15:14] Snik Snoodle: o.O (Got to go) let the cat out - brb
[2012/12/02 15:14] Jalen Optera: The installer Adam had was great until your ip changed, its better to do it yourself so you have a clue how to fix it
[2012/12/02 15:14] Timber Wolfe: even I run into it now and then
[2012/12/02 15:14] Eryn Galen: getting a sim setup is very individual anyway
[2012/12/02 15:14] Nebadon Izumi: i wonder how many people could get apache web server up and running
[2012/12/02 15:14] KingArag0rn Daniel: for someone not into programming it is a labyrinth
[2012/12/02 15:14] Nebadon Izumi: and get a website configured and running
[2012/12/02 15:14] Nebadon Izumi: hehe
[2012/12/02 15:14] Greybeard Thinker: agrees with Timber, routers are the biggest hurdle for noobs getting regions online
[2012/12/02 15:14] Richardus Raymaker: what happend with adams site. the link on forum dont work
[2012/12/02 15:14] Timber Wolfe: and your ip can change when you restart and that leaves you unable to TP in etc
[2012/12/02 15:14] Nebadon Izumi: Adams site?
[2012/12/02 15:14] KingArag0rn Daniel: and considering i am a programmer i still had a hard time first time starting sl
[2012/12/02 15:14] George Equus: The community is everything here
[2012/12/02 15:14] Eryn Galen: Im glad I dont have to Neb, lol
[2012/12/02 15:14] Arielle Popstar: its for those who take a long time to get a clue Jalen :)
[2012/12/02 15:14] Timber Wolfe: and no clue WHY
[2012/12/02 15:14] Richardus Raymaker: dont type so fast, am 20 lines behind :O
[2012/12/02 15:15] KingArag0rn Daniel: lol Rich
[2012/12/02 15:15] Eryn Galen: hehe Rich
[2012/12/02 15:15] Timber Wolfe: not all routers do port forwarding
[2012/12/02 15:15] Allen Firethorn: <- has apache up and running
[2012/12/02 15:15] KingArag0rn Daniel: true Timber
[2012/12/02 15:15] Greybeard Thinker: OK, I'll type slow because rich can't read fast
[2012/12/02 15:15] Timber Wolfe: and then the firewall...
[2012/12/02 15:15] Key Gruin: that's about it Neb, running opensim is not something for anyone
[2012/12/02 15:15] Arielle Popstar: they all do port forward but not all do loopback
[2012/12/02 15:15] Sheri Zans: need to rest take care everyone :)
[2012/12/02 15:15] Timber Wolfe: my bad, meant loopback
[2012/12/02 15:15] KingArag0rn Daniel: yes Ari
[2012/12/02 15:16] Richardus Raymaker: nebadon apache windows or linux ? :O
[15:16] Eryn Galen: rofl
[15:16] KingArag0rn Daniel: thank you bunches Eryn :)
[15:16] Arthur Numbanumba: tc Sheri
[15:16] Sheri Zans left the region.
[15:16] Eryn Galen: no thank you King - when we have the working HUD
[15:16] Eryn Galen: hehe
[15:16] Timber Wolfe: <-- has ubuntu 12.04 on his server
[15:16] Arielle Popstar: a decent upnp app would go a long way to resolve port forward issues
[15:16] Allen Firethorn: <- server runs windows 7
[15:16] Snik Snoodle: back
[15:16] Arielle Popstar: NWS did wonders with theirs
[15:16] Timber Wolfe: most of the hard work is already DONE In the osgrid opensim software
[15:17] KingArag0rn Daniel: my motto in life Eryn is one for all and all for one :)
[15:17] Greybeard Thinker: had good upnp on Tribal net, but it never made it to core code
[15:17] Timber Wolfe: needing only a couple of lines changed by the installing person
[15:17] Key Gruin left the region.
[15:17] Eryn Galen: that works well King, usually ;)
[15:17] Ava Petals left the region.
[15:17] KingArag0rn Daniel: yep
[15:17] Timber Wolfe: one line if they use sqlite
[15:17] Arielle Popstar: Tribal net?
[15:17] Richardus Raymaker: upnp. thats the first thinbg i disable on the router
[15:17] George Equus: upnp needs to be turned on ! never found that info! Thanks Stio!
[15:17] Eryn Galen: ok, anything else on the agenda? I think discussing individual setups isnt really for this meeting ;)
[15:17] Greybeard Thinker: old OpenSim grid run by MW and Lbsa 71
[15:17] Eryn Galen: wb Tiff
[15:17] Timber Wolfe: thats th ebiggest hurdle done- configuring opensim
[15:17] Arielle Popstar: good for you Rira
[15:18] Tiffany Sicling: ty
[15:18] KingArag0rn Daniel: yes concentrate on the meeting goals guys
[15:18] Arielle Popstar: not good for those who dont know router stuff
[15:18] Snik Snoodle: what if any resolutione were made - regarding the adgenda? (and sorry for my late arrival)
[15:18] Tiffany Sicling: just waiting for little things to rez... like floor, chairs, etc.
[15:18] Timber Wolfe: the router is the roadbloack
[15:18] Eryn Galen: they learn or they fail Ari, there is no other way ;)
[15:18] Jalen Optera: Maybe its time for summing up and next steps?
[15:18] Timber Wolfe: there's teamview too
[15:18] Arielle Popstar: there is another way Eryn
[15:18] Eryn Galen: whats that Ari?
[15:18] Tiffany Sicling: teamview works on doze, mac and linux
[15:19] Richardus Raymaker: if people allow others on the system
[15:19] Arielle Popstar: just as the greeters are a way to prevent them fasiling for lack of help in other areas
[15:19] Snik Snoodle: if it's an agenda - do we get to vote on things?
[15:19] Timber Wolfe: yeah it does but not everyone is willing to trust a total stranger logging into their pc
[15:19] Snik Snoodle: it's my experience that most are though timber
[15:19] Timber Wolfe: cool
[15:19] Eryn Galen: oh but they still have to learn, with or without help Ari ;)
[15:20] Snik Snoodle: ppl get desperate - and just want someone to *make it work*
[15:20] Richardus Raymaker: i think the loopback is a bigger problem then forward ports
[15:20] Snik Snoodle: I agree richardus
[15:20] Timber Wolfe: firewalls and security too
[15:20] Snik Snoodle: in my experience - it is
[15:20] dan banner: "make it work"?
[15:20] Jalen Optera: I don't think its a good idea to rely on teamviewer, then people don't learn how to do it for themselves, plus the security issues on both ends and there have been accusations of people hacking, though unfounded, who needs to deal with that
[15:20] dan banner: lol
[15:20] Arielle Popstar: not really....mostly it is double nat that makes it appear as a loopback
[15:20] Arthur Numbanumba: )(^$(^(*()*)(+(&&$$#$@%(^ looopback.... grrr
[15:20] Aedan Charron left the region.
[15:20] KingArag0rn Daniel: we can offer them server hosting at affordable prices in that case
[15:20] Arielle Popstar: lol
[15:21] Arthur Numbanumba: loo
[15:21] Arthur Numbanumba: l
[15:21] KingArag0rn Daniel: for those having routers that don't loopback
[15:21] KingArag0rn Daniel: or have problems
[15:21] dan banner: if they dont learn how it works they will never be able to keep a sim online
[15:21] Timber Wolfe: true jalen, and i only let dakidd do it for me because the server was ONLY for opensim and well, what could he do anyway to it
[15:21] Inanna Beaumont: i got frustrated when i got my region online, but non couldnt get there, also not me. and my router doesnt allow portforwarding too, i think i am not the only one with this problem
[15:21] Eryn Galen: can we agree that setting up Opensim is an individual thing though? We will not find a way that works for everyone here
[15:21] Timber Wolfe: ha dno passwords or private emails etc on it
[15:21] Arielle Popstar: if you look over the list you will see only a small handful of routers that dont
[15:21] Snik Snoodle: some ppl just aren't capable of learning how it works dan
[15:21] Timber Wolfe: linksys works well
[15:21] KingArag0rn Daniel: true Timber
[15:22] Richardus Raymaker: a router without portforwarding ?? eep. i need to find the firts one still.
[15:22] Tiffany Sicling: linksys now loopback is default
[15:22] dan banner: snik: then they shouldnt attempt to run a server
[15:22] Allen Firethorn: I actually had to call my isp because they were blocking my ports.... they weren't supposed to be
[15:22] Snik Snoodle: you're average SL user knows little of networking - or nat loopback or firewalls
[15:22] Inanna Beaumont: it would also be great an instruction not only in english, but also in other languages for newbies
[15:22] Greybeard Thinker: now, if I could only remember the new password i set for our Linksys router lol
[15:22] Timber Wolfe: yeah, i had to learn all that here too
[15:22] Arielle Popstar: and dont forget that in the end, anyone can run a standalone
[15:22] Timber Wolfe: i had no idea what port fowarding was etc
[15:22] Eryn Galen: Ina, know someone who can do that?
[15:22] Timber Wolfe: i never messed with the router beyond turning it on and plugging it in
[15:22] dan banner: if someone cant learn, i cant help
[15:22] Arielle Popstar: that needs to be mentioned more for those that fail
[15:22] Snik Snoodle: they just know SL charges them too much - and they want to go elsewhere thats cheaper
[15:23] Snakedance Moonwing2: snook then i am smarter then avaerage sl user :P
[15:23] Tiffany Sicling: Graybeard: it's admin|admin... you forgot to set that up when you got it)
[15:23] Snakedance Moonwing2: snoodle*
[15:23] Timber Wolfe: then I had to learn about ports, portforwarding, TCP/UDP
[15:23] Timber Wolfe: loopback
[15:23] Inanna Beaumont: brrrrr
[15:23] Richardus Raymaker: i dont understand local language operating system good. its some strange language :O
[15:23] Greybeard Thinker: nope, Tif, I changed all that lol
[15:23] Eryn Galen: and the list of individual problems grows ;)
[15:23] Snik Snoodle: I know dan - I'm just saying - it's not possible to help everyone - though I wish it was
[15:23] Timber Wolfe: but the hard part is already configrued in the osgrid/opensim software itself
[15:23] George Equus: All I know about servers and routers I learned here in fact... a sloooow process.
[15:24] Allen Firethorn: unplug, hold reset button in, plug in... then it's admin|admin :-P
[15:24] Timber Wolfe: I tend to forget what I dont use often
[15:24] Greybeard Thinker: lol
[15:24] Snakedance Moonwing2: ther eis ajoke there timber i am not going to say :D
[15:24] Richardus Raymaker: besides p
[eople iwit only 256K upload is maby not really good fro opensim
[15:24] Tiffany Sicling: oh hi snakecloud
[15:24] Timber Wolfe: lol
[15:24] Arielle Popstar: lol i have that rira
[15:24] Timber Wolfe: or wireless
[15:24] Snik Snoodle: I guess OSG is unique in the fact that if you want to host your own region here - you do need to be competently tecchie
[15:24] Arielle Popstar: i have that too
[15:24] Eryn Galen: hehe is anything else on the agenda? Just asking because of the Primwords schedule
[15:25] George Equus: Wireless works fine for me actually
[15:25] Arielle Popstar: for me too
[15:25] Timber Wolfe: wireless gets iffy
[15:25] Timber Wolfe: its not optimal
[15:25] Eryn Galen: Snik, I disagree, I havev seen people running their own regions that didnt know what a router was !
[15:25] KingArag0rn Daniel: thats where we grid and server hosting persons come in
[15:25] Arielle Popstar: if too far from the router maybe
[15:25] Richardus Raymaker: i have nly question for neb. but that can be done when its more quite
[15:25] Timber Wolfe: but wireless is getting more popular
[15:25] Jalen Optera: to sum up, we have stuff to do, Greeter program to be enhanced, Eryn will be busy?
[15:25] Allen Firethorn: I just need some phantom regions purged and neb, if I could talk to you offline, I need some scripting advice
[15:25] Eryn Galen: Rich, not likely getting more quiet ;)
[15:25] Han Held: Snik, there's other non-techi opensim solutions such as sim on a stick and new world studio...tho they aren't tied to any specific grid. Also there's myopensim (I think?) which offers sim software to connect to their grid the same way osgrid does.
[15:25] Eryn Galen: LOL, when am I not busy Jalen?
[15:25] Han Held: just fyi
[15:25] Arielle Popstar: you never have just one question Rira :)
[15:25] Jalen Optera: :)
[15:26] Richardus Raymaker: i have only one. about the telehub
[15:26] Timber Wolfe: sim on a stick is ok, but not configured to connect to this grid, youd have to do all that manually
[15:26] Snik Snoodle wonders if we should have a newbies networking 101 calss?
[15:26] Arielle Popstar: exactly Han and people should be told about those solutions when osgrid connect fails
[15:26] Richardus Raymaker: so you need osgrid on a stick
[15:26] Snik Snoodle: *class*
[15:26] Timber Wolfe: I think it has an installer in it that tries to configure your router?
[15:26] Timber Wolfe: kinda have osgrid on a stick
[15:26] Tiffany Sicling: 3rd attempt to IAR and it has been spending the last 20 minutes telling me that received information about asset (UUID) while in state aborted. Ignoring.
[15:26] Timber Wolfe: the software is preconfigured to connect here
[15:27] Snik Snoodle: so ppl can just come along and say *my router went bleep - what does it mean?*
[15:27] Snik Snoodle: y'know
[15:27] Arielle Popstar: i have gotten a few people connected to osgrid through the nws installer
[15:27] Timber Wolfe: check your router manufacturer;s web site :)
[15:27] Snik Snoodle: would free up the welcopme area
[15:27] Snik Snoodle: if we hald regular - get your sim online groups
[15:27] Snik Snoodle: just an idea
[15:27] Snakedance Moonwing2: what is that router website for ports?
[15:27] Han Held: 2nded
[15:28] Arielle Popstar: http:portforward.com
[15:28] Snakedance Moonwing2: ty
[15:28] Snik Snoodle: if you held such a class twice monthly
[15:28] George Equus: I'm glad osg offer a "ready-made" software, don't know if I'd made it without that.
[15:28] Arielle Popstar: insert slashes ;)
[15:28] KingArag0rn Daniel: portforwarding.com i think?
[15:28] Timber Wolfe: yeah portforward.com
[15:28] Snik Snoodle: I reckon that would be a help
[15:28] KingArag0rn Daniel: right
[15:28] George Equus: Is great help!
[15:28] dan banner: ya thats a good site for sure
[15:29] Timber Wolfe: but i think its fee based for some of the things
[15:29] George Equus: But you need to find the site... took a while
[15:29] Snik Snoodle: so for newbies arriving at LBSA - who asked - how can I set up my sim - you could give 'em a notcard of the OSG networking 101 meets.....
[15:29] Timber Wolfe: i have notecards
[15:29] Arielle Popstar: their solutions wont work for opensim though
[15:29] Snik Snoodle: gives 'em a target they can focus on then :)
[15:29] Snakedance Moonwing2: lol snik i am trying to help one now actually :)
[15:29] dan banner: snik: what about the ones that just want free land NOW and dont want to read or look at urls?
[15:29] Timber Wolfe: a folder of sim hosting FAQ notecards
[15:29] Snik Snoodle: yes - I'm not surprised snakey
[15:30] Arielle Popstar: Maybe Adam could be asked to update his installer?
[15:30] Greybeard Thinker: yeah right
[15:30] dan banner: i think fernando already has arielle
[15:30] Greybeard Thinker: Adam is doing other thin gs now
[15:30] Arielle Popstar: his doesnt work on net 3.5
[15:30] Timber Wolfe: yeah just ask, im sure he'll be happy to spend the next 2 months working on it for free ;)
[15:31] Snik Snoodle: I love OSG and It's community - but I fear we're no0t really adequately prepared for the increasing newbie influx
[15:31] George Equus: I do take an effort to be here. If you are not prepaired to rerad a lot you'll probabably leave before long.
[15:31] Key Gruin entered the region (141.23 m).
[15:32] paulie Flomar entered the region (142.26 m).
[15:32] Arielle Popstar: stop
[15:32] James Robertson: byby peeps, nighty nighty from me x
[15:32] George Equus: *read
[15:32] dan banner: snik: what im seeing statistically is basically the same number of people coming and going
[15:32] paulie Flomar left the region.
[15:32] Mercalia Beck: I think we should open a refugee office in Inworldz
[15:32] dan banner: theres no apparent increase except on the day sl was offline
[15:32] Snik Snoodle: ok dan ty
[15:32] Timber Wolfe: ugh
[15:32] Arthur Numbanumba: lol
[15:32] Han Held: back
[15:33] Eryn Galen: lol thats normal dan ;)
[15:33] Timber Wolfe: front
[15:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: wb Han
[15:33] dan banner: that day logins jumped like 20%
[15:33] Han Held: ty KingArag0rn ?
[15:33] Tiffany Sicling: well dang. not able to move some of my stuff to an SA or whatever makes this feel like SL in a way. :(
[15:33] Mercalia Beck: when I was there many hadnt heard of osgrid
[15:33] Timber Wolfe: whew
[15:33] KingArag0rn Daniel: yw
[15:33] Snik Snoodle: ok - question - whats OSG's retention figures like dan?
[15:33] Mercalia Beck: when i mentioned it a few have come here and stayed i think
[15:33] Nebadon Izumi: Tiffany, if you cant move stuff its likely because something is misconfigured
[15:33] James Robertson left the region.
[15:33] Nebadon Izumi: there are no technical limitations on moving stuff through hypergrid
[15:33] Timber Wolfe: i keep trying to get a buddy to come here but he doesnt want to leave his groups and friends in SL
[15:34] Nebadon Izumi: dan and I have tested it quite recently and it is working fine
[15:34] KingArag0rn Daniel: or need some spinach like popeye :P
[15:34] Timber Wolfe: thats probably common
[15:34] KingArag0rn Daniel: to move em
[15:34] Han Held: Yeah, that's the experience I have in SL too
[15:34] Arielle Popstar: in world concurrency has been down for months
[15:34] Tiffany Sicling: I didn't do anything more than put the osg release in place, change mysql params and fire it up.
[15:34] Snik Snoodle: Thank you arielle
[15:34] Eryn Galen: wb Key
[15:34] Arielle Popstar: rarely see above 125 anymore
[15:34] Tiffany Sicling: oh, and set it to GridHyper
[15:34] KingArag0rn Daniel: wb Key
[15:35] Snik Snoodle: it's my perception ppl come here - some get help and stay - others get confused and leave
[15:35] Key Gruin: ty ty
[15:35] Timber Wolfe: i think its been an average of +- 125-150 all the time ive been here
[15:35] KingArag0rn Daniel: welcome
[15:35] Key Gruin: http://wiki.osgrid.org/index.php/TownHallMeetingLog20121202
[15:35] Timber Wolfe: its the same in avination, iw etc
[15:35] Timber Wolfe: their concurrents stay pretty much the same all the time
[15:35] Eryn Galen: lol the meeting stopped Key?
[15:35] Jalen Optera: we have quite a few hg people hanging out here now though and that isnt reflected in the numbers
[15:35] Key Gruin: I'll add in the rest after it ends
[15:35] Greybeard Thinker: log is too early Key lol
[15:35] Eryn Galen: hehe
[15:35] Han Held: That's my experience, I have vague memories of osgrid having ~100 on back when inworldz first got ~200 concurrency, but that was a couple years back...
[15:35] Nebadon Izumi: ya the website stats do not include Hypergrid visitors
[15:35] Greybeard Thinker: you missed half of it
[15:35] paulie Flomar entered the region (142.26 m).
[15:36] Richardus Raymaker: i have tried to make Hypergrid standalone instruction on my page
[15:36] Han Held: no idea what their average concurrency is now...
[15:36] Eryn Galen: OMG less than 100, that was a looong time ago Han ;)
[15:36] Nebadon Izumi: OSgrid has had over 250 concurrent before
[15:36] Timber Wolfe: doubt i ever saw more than 225 logged in to either at once
[15:36] Richardus Raymaker: http://simsquaremetaverse.nl/config_standalonehypergrid.php
[15:36] Nebadon Izumi: generally we see those kind of high numbers when SL goes down
[15:36] Tiffany Sicling left the region.
[15:36] Inanna Beaumont: i found out, newbies come here, are happy to get all the freebies, but get confused, the more, when they dont want to build but just want any entertainment. than they return to SL
[15:36] Snik Snoodle: I could care less about other grids, I just care bout osg :)
[15:36] Eryn Galen: same Snik
[15:36] Greybeard Thinker: ditto
[15:36] Snik Snoodle: /m nods ainnana
[15:36] Han Held: Heh, I don't want to build, but I make my own entertainment ;)
[15:37] Eryn Galen: and Ina, nothing we do here would stop those
[15:37] Snakedance Moonwing2: can we change the name to snakedance grid? :)
[15:37] Key Gruin: 252 is the most I"ve seen during that SL downtime a while back
[15:37] dan banner: nod
[15:37] Eryn Galen: motion denied Snake ;)
[15:37] Snakedance Moonwing2: aww :(
[15:37] Snik Snoodle: (Laughing out Loud) eryn
[15:37] Eryn Galen: hehe
[15:37] Timber Wolfe: OSnakedance
[15:37] Snik Snoodle: so sniks grid is also out?
[15:37] Allen Firethorn: you can start your own Snakedance grid lol
[15:38] George Equus: This is more of a techie place than SL, not so much social as they are
[15:38] Han Held: I made a hanheld grid but no one came LOL
[15:38] dan banner: ya thats the best part is everyone can start a grid
[15:38] Timber Wolfe: yeah sl is more of a social and merchandizing thing
[15:38] Eryn Galen: oh its social here, but its not so central and we dont (luckily) I find have their numbers
[15:38] Han Held: esp merchandizing
[15:38] Richardus Raymaker: what are noobs missing, entertainment or land ? i hear some missing social stuff.
[15:38] Snik Snoodle: I just know that osg has a wonderful and vibrant community - and to be frank - we just need to organise ourselves a little - so we can help newcomers
