Appearance
[10:11 AM] Cueball White: Hey Albertlr [10:11 AM] albertlr Landar: Hi [10:12 AM] albertlr Landar: How are you? [10:12 AM] Cueball White: Good thanks. How about yourself? [10:13 AM] albertlr Landar: Doing well. [10:13 AM] albertlr Landar: Glad we got things stabalized around here. [10:14 AM] Cueball White: Yeah it's so nice to be back. How has the new backend code for the asset servers running? [10:15 AM] albertlr Landar: Seems to be good. [10:16 AM] albertlr Landar: We have been able to more servers over, and we gave up about 4 of them. [10:16 AM] albertlr Landar: move [10:16 AM] albertlr Landar: So we are costing less now, which is a big help financially. [10:16 AM] albertlr Landar: We just need to up our subscriptions, and that should fix everything goiong forward. [10:17 AM] Cueball White: Ahh that's good. [10:17 AM] Cueball White: Is it only PayPal that you use for regular donations? [10:17 AM] albertlr Landar: yea for now, except we do accept lindens over on Second Life too. [10:17 AM] albertlr Landar: And paypal can accept any major credit card. [10:18 AM] Cueball White: Yeah, I don't have a PayPal account. :( [10:18 AM] albertlr Landar: they handle all conversions for us. [10:18 AM] Cueball White: Ever thought of something like Patreon? [10:18 AM] albertlr Landar: Oh they can accept credit cards, you do not have to sign up for a membership. [10:19 AM] albertlr Landar: Its something we may consider. [10:19 AM] Cueball White: Yeah but that's for one off transactions. I was thinking more of a monthly thing. I actually used to do it years ago but I've since lost my PayPal [10:19 AM] albertlr Landar: yea, I wil check into that, and see what it entails. [10:19 AM] Putri SoloSinger is Online [10:20 AM] albertlr Landar: thanks for the suggestion. [10:20 AM] Cueball White: There are others too like Ko-Fi [10:21 AM] Prince Amor is Offline [10:25 AM] albertlr Landar: we don't always get a lot of people here, so will wait till it starts and see who shows up this week. [10:26 AM] albertlr Landar: We decided a while back to have these to especially to help new users. [10:26 AM] Cueball White: Yeah I remembered about these near the end of last year but couldn't really find much information about when or where they were held [10:27 AM] albertlr Landar: oh its helpd the 2nd week of each month, when we are on line that is. [10:27 AM] albertlr Landar: heled [10:27 AM] albertlr Landar: held [10:27 AM] albertlr Landar: that is [10:27 AM] albertlr Landar: on Sturdays at 11 am grid time. [10:28 AM] Cueball White: Yes :) I got the notice today as I happened to be online. That's why I'm here and that also had the information about 2nd Saturday of the month etc. [10:28 AM] albertlr Landar: We had some problems with those users that had homesteads on out plazas. [10:28 AM] Putri SoloSinger is Offline [10:28 AM] albertlr Landar: In that they got disconencted from their lands, but Sarah Kline our Board member is helping with that. [10:29 AM] albertlr Landar: good well you have questions about anything, can help you in the meantime. [10:30 AM] Cueball White: Nothing I can think of right now. I run my own regions so I was ok during the shutdown. Did my OAR's and IAR for me and some close friends [10:31 AM] albertlr Landar: We are having our 18th Birthday Events and Display next month. [10:32 AM] Inventory item offered to Cueball White [10:32 AM] Cueball White received your inventory offer. [10:33 AM] albertlr Landar: That is the landmark for the 1st Brithday Region. [10:33 AM] albertlr Landar: We add to it as more participate. [10:33 AM] Cueball White: Nice thank you :) [10:33 AM] albertlr Landar: We usually have from 3 to 5 regions. [10:34 AM] albertlr Landar: you can get a Birthday T shirt there for free for both male and females. [10:34 AM] Cueball White: Yeah. I attended OSG2B :D [10:34 AM] albertlr Landar: Oh ok [10:34 AM] albertlr Landar: Well just glad we made it to 18 this year. [10:35 AM] albertlr Landar: We lost one of our largest donators back in Feb. so it has hurt us a little financially. [10:35 AM] Cueball White: Aww :( [10:35 AM] Cueball White: Who was that? [10:35 AM] Neovo Geesink is Online [10:35 AM] albertlr Landar: They had been giving evey month since it first began, and really helped us to be stable. [10:35 AM] albertlr Landar: Well one of the original developers who had a server place in Australia. [10:36 AM] Cueball White: Aww. [10:36 AM] albertlr Landar: They may be having financial problems themselves. So it not related to inventory problems. [10:36 AM] albertlr Landar: so that is one reason we have to push subscriptions right now to make up shortages each month. [10:37 AM] Cueball White: Yeah please do find something like Ko-Fi or Patreon it wont be much but I will definitely put something towards monthly [10:37 AM] albertlr Landar: For many years we were getting more in that our costs, but this past year with inventory problems and having to use extra servers, and then losing their support it has really hit our back up funds. [10:38 AM] albertlr Landar: oh we were looking at alternatives to paypal. [10:38 AM] albertlr Landar: and will find something. [10:38 AM] Cueball White: :D [10:38 AM] albertlr Landar: Sometimes those people at paypal do not help us. [10:39 AM] albertlr Landar: For instance, they are fast to take things our of our bank account, but they now take about 7 days for us to transfer funds back to paypal. [10:39 AM] albertlr Landar: They basically hold our money despite it clearing the bank. [10:40 AM] albertlr Landar: just started doing this the past two months. [10:40 AM] Cueball White: Yeah they have never been the best for putting users first. [10:40 AM] albertlr Landar: So I am definitely looking around for an alternative to them. [10:41 AM] albertlr Landar: Their fees however for a non profit are still pretty good. [10:41 AM] Cueball White: At least that's a bonus [10:43 AM] albertlr Landar: mainly why we have stuck with them so far. [10:44 AM] albertlr Landar: hell [10:44 AM] albertlr Landar: Hello that is [10:44 AM] Neovo Geesink: Hello Albertlr and Ceuball [10:44 AM] albertlr Landar: Sorry finger slippeed [10:44 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [10:44 AM] Cueball White: Hey Neovo [10:44 AM] albertlr Landar: How are things in the Neatherlands. [10:44 AM] Neovo Geesink: Hot... :=( and humid. [10:45 AM] albertlr Landar whispers: Neovo is one of our [10:45 AM] albertlr Landar: Admins. [10:45 AM] Cueball White: We have had thunderstorms in the UK today. [10:45 AM] Neovo Geesink: Wow. [10:45 AM] albertlr Landar: We have had rain here in GA all week. [10:45 AM] albertlr Landar: Starting to slack off finally. [10:45 AM] albertlr Landar: And Thunderstorms too. [10:46 AM] Neovo Geesink: Just updat OSG18B1, There are quite a few parcels given already. :-) [10:46 AM] albertlr Landar: And Hurricane Season has just begun, but no one in sight yet. [10:46 AM] albertlr Landar: Yea I visited over there just before I came, picked up a t shirt. [10:46 AM] albertlr Landar: I saw Arcadia's name on them, so hope she is back with her things. [10:47 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [10:47 AM] Cueball White: I will be picking up my T-Shirt after this :) [10:48 AM] albertlr Landar: Well as I mentioned at board meeting, Lani Mall is open again. [10:49 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [10:49 AM] albertlr Landar whispers: which is good for those that like [10:49 AM] albertlr Landar: Sci Fi things [10:49 AM] Cueball White: Yeah it's been back for a few weeks right? [10:49 AM] albertlr Landar: yea [10:49 AM] Cueball White: I was so glad we didn't lost LaniMall [10:49 AM] albertlr Landar: me too. [10:50 AM] albertlr Landar: We found out it was hosted on the Snoppie regions. [10:50 AM] Cueball White: I don't know those [10:50 AM] albertlr Landar: So we knew that they would back up regions. [10:50 AM] albertlr Landar: they are out of Switzerland. [10:50 AM] albertlr Landar: One of the oldest providers of regions. [10:50 AM] Cueball White: Nice [10:51 AM] albertlr Landar: They have a nice region which is open to the public with free things if you have not been there before. [10:51 AM] Neovo Geesink: The first ever region I go tonline was hosted by "YourSimSpot" [10:51 AM] albertlr Landar: Very large textures building too. [10:51 AM] TP Hud v3.1-Mine: Listener Turned On [10:51 AM] TP Hud v3.1-Mine: Listener Turned Off [10:52 AM] Cueball White: I ran my own region from the start. It was what attracted me over from SL [10:52 AM] albertlr Landar: is called Samsara [10:52 AM] TP Hud v3.1-Mine: The Listener is Turned off because you did not click to TP, choose another destination [10:52 AM] Cueball White: I remember sim crossings weren't very good back then haha [10:52 AM] albertlr Landar: Just type that in your map search and it will take you there. [10:52 AM] Cueball White: Ahh I remember Samsara [10:52 AM] albertlr Landar: Anyway that is run by Snoppie [10:54 AM] albertlr Landar: Cueball was mentioning Patreon or Ko-Fi as some alternatives to paypal that we might consider. [10:54 AM] albertlr Landar: So will look into them. [10:54 AM] Neovo Geesink: Okay. I o not know them, but Always worth a try. [10:54 AM] albertlr Landar: might help with subscritions. [10:55 AM] albertlr Landar: well I think that Ko-fi charges 5% which is a little more tha paypal for transactions. [10:55 AM] albertlr Landar: But still I do think we need some alternatives to paypal, they are not always helpful with things. [10:56 AM] Neovo Geesink: Sad indeed. [10:56 AM] albertlr Landar: But things do look our finances are finally stablizing some. [10:56 AM] Neovo Geesink: Nice! [10:56 AM] albertlr Landar: We had a minor crisis in that OVH at first would not allow us to drop 4 servers. [10:57 AM] albertlr Landar: Because they claimed we had agree to use them till nov. [10:57 AM] Neovo Geesink: Oh? Thats nasty. [10:57 AM] albertlr Landar: We just could not afford that. [10:57 AM] albertlr Landar: But Dan talked to them, and the agreed to a one time cancelation of those servers. [10:58 AM] albertlr Landar: So that is saving us about $600 a month going forward now. [10:58 AM] Neovo Geesink: Would this affect the stbilety and overall preformance of the Grid? [10:58 AM] Cueball White: I use OVH for one of my servers too. [10:58 AM] albertlr Landar: no we are not using those servers. [10:58 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [10:58 AM] albertlr Landar: Because of the reset, we need less space. [10:58 AM] albertlr Landar: So really had no use for them. [10:59 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [10:59 AM] albertlr Landar: And he had already moved us a bigger and better servers replaicing the other ones. [10:59 AM] Neovo Geesink: Nice. [10:59 AM] albertlr Landar: So technically better off now. [10:59 AM] albertlr Landar: And things are a lot better on the Grid. [11:00 AM] Cueball White: Excellent :) [11:00 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) Well, In Lbsa there were moamings that meshes did not load a few hours back... [11:01 AM] albertlr Landar: Well not sure what that is about, if they were messed up with the reset, then nothing to do there. [11:01 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:01 AM] albertlr Landar: And some times the viewers start acting up too. [11:01 AM] albertlr Landar: I have never gotten into the mesh avatars. [11:01 AM] Cueball White: I hate that when there is an issue people jump to the conclusion it's an OSGrid issue when most of the time it's the region or they are HG, etc [11:01 AM] albertlr Landar: perfer the old standard avatars. [11:02 AM] Neovo Geesink: Neither did I. For what I do here, this will suffice perfectly. [11:02 AM] albertlr Landar: I will admit however that the new games using the unreal engine do have excellent visualts. [11:03 AM] Neovo Geesink: Sure. Unreal Engine is a beast! That will coop very well. [11:03 AM] Cueball White: Funily enough I've been playing Unreal Tournament today which is where the engine originated :D [11:04 AM] Neovo Geesink: UE is even earlier. The very first version of Unreal had it alread, but Not comparable to what it is now... [11:05 AM] Cueball White: Yeah it was for the original Unreal game [11:05 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:05 AM] Em Jannings is Offline [11:06 AM] albertlr Landar: The one I had been using was the Hogwarts Legacy game from Warner Brothers. [11:06 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:06 AM] albertlr Landar: It is really very good, and the latest allows connections to mods. [11:06 AM] albertlr Landar: Which the user can make themselves. [11:07 AM] Cueball White: I play Ark on the Xbox. That is UE and it's just been updated to UE 5.5 [11:07 AM] albertlr Landar: However its all beyond me takes some scritps and coding. [11:07 AM] Neovo Geesink: Wow... [11:07 AM] albertlr Landar: We had some people looking into the unreal engine, they claimed that we could use it as they charged at the time. [11:08 AM] albertlr Landar: But I understand that only if you are making money on it do they charge for it. [11:08 AM] Neovo Geesink: ... :-( [11:08 AM] albertlr Landar: otherwise it is free to use. [11:09 AM] albertlr Landar: They are working on the version 5 of it now, and i understand that Warner Brothers will be making the Horgwars Legacy 2 using version 5 [11:09 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:09 AM] albertlr Landar: But the PC version is now connect to mods directly, and when you load it you can instantly connect hundreds of mods to it. [11:09 AM] Neovo Geesink: Wow. [11:10 AM] albertlr Landar: Its really nice. Someone even had a Steamboat Willlie character added to it, where by you cloodect aninals in word for one of the quests. [11:10 AM] albertlr Landar: And Epic Games no has the PC version on sale for $20 [11:10 AM] albertlr Landar: Total and that is wil all the additions. [11:10 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:11 AM] albertlr Landar: Now had it. [11:11 AM] Cueball White: Do any more staff normally attend this meeting? [11:12 AM] albertlr Landar: Sorry have totake that back. [11:12 AM] albertlr Landar: They just raised the price to $69 [11:12 AM] Neovo Geesink: Oeui... [11:12 AM] albertlr Landar: no just us usually [11:12 AM] albertlr Landar: We did have Nebadon attend a good while back but he is no longer with Osgrid. [11:13 AM] Neovo Geesink: Well, Any other staff members are hardly here on the meeting days... Also not a lot of civilians.. [11:13 AM] Cueball White: What happened to Nebadon? [11:13 AM] albertlr Landar: If you ever have development questions you can attend the Tuesday meetings they have over on the special Dev Outreach region. [11:13 AM] albertlr Landar: He had other real world things, moved to Europe I understand was working on City building design. [11:14 AM] Cueball White: Wow [11:14 AM] albertlr Landar: He was a desginer. [11:14 AM] albertlr Landar: You can see many of his bulds at the OSCC regions. [11:14 AM] Cueball White: Yeah he created a lot of stuff back in the day. [11:14 AM] Neovo Geesink: That special region is called "Dev Outreach" [11:14 AM] albertlr Landar: And if you check out Unicampus, he built that also for Educational purposes. [11:15 AM] Cueball White: Hard to not see his name attached to something [11:15 AM] albertlr Landar: He still has a shop in Wright Plaza. [11:15 AM] Cueball White: Yeah I seen Unicampus :D [11:15 AM] albertlr Landar: He has websites. [11:15 AM] Neovo Geesink: Indeed, In Wright Plaza, there is also a lot from Nebadon. :-) [11:15 AM] albertlr Landar: But have not heard from him in several years now. [11:16 AM] albertlr Landar: But if you check in our posts in the wiki of past chats from these meetings you will see the one with Nebadon, where he gets into the history of OSgrid. [11:16 AM] albertlr Landar: https://wiki.osgrid.org/index.php/Saturday_Q&A [11:17 AM] albertlr Landar: That was back in 2017 June [11:18 AM] Cueball White: :) [11:18 AM] albertlr Landar: BTW, I had a door bell right, so had to check it. [11:18 AM] Neovo Geesink: :-) [11:19 AM] albertlr Landar: Was the Post office delivering what I thought was a CD, I had order. [11:19 AM] albertlr Landar: Turned out to be a LP [11:19 AM] albertlr Landar: did not know that they still sold LP's. [11:19 AM] Neovo Geesink: Oei... Quite a bit larger. [11:19 AM] albertlr Landar: I do still have a player, but have not used it for a while. [11:20 AM] albertlr Landar: And I still have many old LP's which I should try to sell, as many are collcting them now I guess. [11:20 AM] Cueball White: I love LP's. I still have mine setup in my living room [11:21 AM] albertlr Landar: I was General Manger of Georgia Public Radio for about 5 years, and worked for them in other roles for 3 years before that. [11:21 AM] Neovo Geesink: Sorry, have to log off... Heat and high humidity is not a good combinaion to me... [11:21 AM] Neovo Geesink is Offline [11:21 AM] albertlr Landar: So often had to fill in for volunteers that did not show up. [11:21 AM] albertlr Landar: So i had a use for LP's and Cd's for many years there. [11:21 AM] albertlr Landar: Classical that is. [11:22 AM] albertlr Landar: Till they gave the station to the State of Georgia, and I had to leave. [11:22 AM] Cueball White: Aww [11:22 AM] albertlr Landar: the board did that. [11:22 AM] albertlr Landar: It was a power struggle, they did not want to let people manage it, so used the excuse that the state had lots of money to keep it going. [11:23 AM] Putri SoloSinger is Online [11:23 AM] albertlr Landar: And we now have all talk radio now, as we feared. [11:23 AM] albertlr Landar: We were local community station for years, but others decided to close it down. [11:24 AM] Lobo Estepario is Online [11:24 AM] albertlr Landar: So used my experience in non-profits to help OSgrid get set up as it is currently [11:24 AM] Cueball White: I was just skimming the names on the old meetings there. Lot's of the staff used to attend. Paela, Wizard, Dan and you are just a few I recognize [11:24 AM] albertlr Landar: Oh yea. [11:25 AM] albertlr Landar: Paela is on right now, but was having physical problems recently. [11:25 AM] albertlr Landar: And Wizard is still around, jsut not as much recently. [11:25 AM] Cueball White: I felt sorry for her during the shutdown. She was getting a lot of stick in the Discord. [11:25 AM] albertlr Landar: yea.... [11:26 AM] Cueball White: Yeah I see Wizard at the Thursday night games each week [11:26 AM] Cueball White: Well it's night time for me at least. [11:26 AM] albertlr Landar: Was trying to help people with backups, and a lot of those did not work out. [11:26 AM] Cueball White: 23:00 [11:26 AM] albertlr Landar: I did that myself with about 20+ users. And I was able to restore their inventories, but not sure if every thing came back in full. [11:27 AM] albertlr Landar: I was lucky in that I had a full back up from 2021 which pretty juch restored what I had before. [11:27 AM] Cueball White: I think for the ones I did was roughly 95% successful on the backup [11:27 AM] albertlr Landar: Had not gotten much before that. [11:27 AM] albertlr Landar: or after that that is. [11:28 AM] albertlr Landar: Well if no one else shows up by 11:30 will call the meeting for today to a close. [11:29 AM] albertlr Landar: But thanks for coming Cueball [11:29 AM] Cueball White: I think it may be worth publishing some info about it on the site and in world so people are aware of it's existence. [11:29 AM] albertlr Landar: And thanks for the suggestions I will check those out. [11:30 AM] Cueball White: Is it published on OSW? [11:30 AM] albertlr Landar: Oh we do have it listed on events, but try to put some more out about it and about subscriptions also. [11:30 AM] albertlr Landar: No don't think so. [11:30 AM] albertlr Landar: but i will check. [11:31 AM] Cueball White: A lot of people use that to find out what's going on in the metaverse these days. [11:31 AM] albertlr Landar: But i will be back here in July for another meeting on july 11th, at 11 am Hurliman Plaza. [11:32 AM] albertlr Landar: i was having these meetings weekly for a good while, but it got so very few if any people showed up, so cut them down to just once a month now. [11:32 AM] albertlr Landar: But again thanks for coming, see you soon.
