[ Note: log times below are US/Eastern (UTC-5) ]

[2009/11/18 16:06] Dave Coyle: this is the weekly OSGrid Town Hall meeting, which is basically an open floor to talk about what you love and hate about the grid, where things are problematic, and what areas need improvement
[2009/11/18 16:06] Dave Coyle: i only have one thing to mention...
[2009/11/18 16:06] Nebs Cherry Martini with Orange Slice whispers: Another route to Nirvana
[2009/11/18 16:06] Dave Coyle: a couple weeks ago i asked for volunteers to help translate parts of the osgrid website...
[2009/11/18 16:06] Dave Coyle: my apologies for not getting back to you yet...
[2009/11/18 16:07] Dave Coyle: but i hope to have a list for people to look at in the next day or two
[2009/11/18 16:07] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Bryn Eagan to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:07] Nebs Cherry Martini with Orange Slice whispers: Another route to Nirvana
[2009/11/18 16:07] Dave Coyle: i know a couple people have been helping warin translate signs on Orientation Island
[2009/11/18 16:07] Dave Coyle: if anyone else is interested in helping translate and hasn't already spoken to me, please IM either myself or Adelle
[2009/11/18 16:08] Dave Coyle: and that's all i got.
[2009/11/18 16:08] Dave Coyle: anything anyone would like to discuss?
[2009/11/18 16:08] Andress Renault: Yes actually
[2009/11/18 16:08] Kally Rakan: minor point on translations, the translator huds don't work on lbsa due to disabled scripting
[2009/11/18 16:09] Andress Renault: I was looking at my achievements on the OS website
[2009/11/18 16:09] Dave Coyle: i hear the latest snowglobe has translation built into the viewer. anyone try using that here yet?
[2009/11/18 16:09] Andress Renault: Is that still an active program?
[2009/11/18 16:09] Andress Renault waits
[2009/11/18 16:09] Dave Coyle: andress: yes, but some are automatic and some are manual
[2009/11/18 16:09] Dave Coyle: are you missing points?
[2009/11/18 16:09] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Key Gruin to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:09] Nebadon Izumi: i heard meerkat people talking about that at one point
[2009/11/18 16:09] Andress Renault: No..my next one is helping by volenteering to help in some manner with OSgrid
[2009/11/18 16:10] Andress Renault: Internship..who would I see about that?
[2009/11/18 16:10] Amik Monda: I'll second that; is there a list of volunteer opportunities?
[2009/11/18 16:10] Dave Coyle: andress: email [email protected]
[2009/11/18 16:11] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome phacelia Furse to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:11] Andress Renault: Got it
[2009/11/18 16:11] Andress Renault: Also is orintation <sp> island a separate place from Isba plaza, as folks port into Isba yes?
[2009/11/18 16:11] Dave Coyle: amik: unfortunately, no.
[2009/11/18 16:11] Dave Coyle: OI is a separate region, yes
[2009/11/18 16:11] Dave Coyle: currently being built
[2009/11/18 16:12] Dave Coyle: no one lands there by default, though
[2009/11/18 16:12] Dave Coyle: (currently)
[2009/11/18 16:12] Andress Renault: Ok I see new area..got ya
[2009/11/18 16:12] Amik Monda: I have a question...
[2009/11/18 16:12] Dave Coyle: sure
[2009/11/18 16:12] Amik Monda: What degree of problem or difficulty would be enough to bother programmers and admin with forum posts and such? I usually assume things are being taken care of , and don't like to complain
[2009/11/18 16:12] Amik Monda: but I know it's useful to bring things to their attention
[2009/11/18 16:13] Dave Coyle: any, i guess
[2009/11/18 16:14] Dave Coyle: IRC and the forums are really the only vehicles for support
[2009/11/18 16:14] Andress Renault: I have never visited the forums myself, usually address it here or with someone I know or IRC
[2009/11/18 16:14] Dave Coyle: most of it is user-to-user support on both
[2009/11/18 16:14] Dave Coyle: yeah, from a support standpoint the forums are basically the same as IRC, just with a different interface
[2009/11/18 16:14] Kally Rakan: I expect that if you bug them, they'll let you know quite clearly :)
[2009/11/18 16:15] Amik Monda: thanks-= I'll figure a generic disclaimer on posts, something like: "I'm not complaining, but..." :-)
[2009/11/18 16:15] Adelle Fitzgerald: i suggest for OSgrid related issues use the OSgrid forums, for OpenSim related issues use the mantis and #opensim IRC channel, but can say anything of concern really
[2009/11/18 16:15] Dave Coyle: amik: do you have something specific in mind you could mention now?
[2009/11/18 16:16] Amik Monda: minor things: not logging in directly to my region, missing attachments after TP... nothing major
[2009/11/18 16:16] Amik Monda: nothng I can't easily live with for the privilege of being here at all :-)
[2009/11/18 16:16] Adelle Fitzgerald: the missing attachments is a known issue
[2009/11/18 16:16] Andress Renault: The attachment issue was mentioned at the Dev meeting so its on the agenda I believe.
[2009/11/18 16:17] Dave Coyle: hi key
[2009/11/18 16:17] Andress Renault: What Adelle said :)
[2009/11/18 16:17] Key Gruin: HI Dave
[2009/11/18 16:17] Amik Monda: thanks
[2009/11/18 16:18] Andress Renault waves to Key
[2009/11/18 16:18] Adelle Fitzgerald: its always a good idea before posting something to search the mantis and forums to see if anything has already been posed before, then in many cases it would help to add your experiences to that existing post
[2009/11/18 16:18] Key Gruin waves back to Andress
[2009/11/18 16:18] Adelle Fitzgerald: of course IRC is pretty open to just asking if anyone has experienced the same
[2009/11/18 16:19] Andress Renault: I have gotten a couple of just 'blue screens' after teleporting is that a OS issue or?
[2009/11/18 16:19] Shez Oyen: What's a mantis?
[2009/11/18 16:19] Adelle Fitzgerald: that sounds like a viewer issue
[2009/11/18 16:19] Dave Coyle: windows blue screens?
[2009/11/18 16:19] Dave Coyle: shez: it's the opensimulator bug tracking system
[2009/11/18 16:19] Kally Rakan: if you teleport long distance it might be the viewer choking
[2009/11/18 16:19] Andress Renault: No No..the viewer goes baby blue..no visuals.
[2009/11/18 16:19] Dave Coyle: http://opensimulator.org/mantis
[2009/11/18 16:19] Shez Oyen: Thanks Dave
[2009/11/18 16:20] Andress Renault: Ok Im using Hippo cause Ive had graphics glitches with the others.
[2009/11/18 16:20] Adelle Fitzgerald: Andress, that shound like you are teleporting more than 4096 grid cells away, in which case its a viewer issue
[2009/11/18 16:20] Andress Renault: Ok thanks Adelle..
[2009/11/18 16:21] Jeeper Shim: Meerkat can do it
[2009/11/18 16:21] Adelle Fitzgerald: the current viewers are only capable fo teleporting a maximum of 4096 cells, and LL have not ever fixed it as it doesnt affect their grid
[2009/11/18 16:21] Andress Renault: Im having trouble getting Meerkat to view ..probably how Im setting up the url
[2009/11/18 16:21] Adelle Fitzgerald: but the map dont work in meerkat :-/
[2009/11/18 16:21] Adelle Fitzgerald: in the latest RC anyway
[2009/11/18 16:21] Andress Renault: What is a suggestion other then Hippo?
[2009/11/18 16:21] Shez Oyen: I'm using emerald
[2009/11/18 16:22] Shez Oyen: I like it a lot
[2009/11/18 16:22] Adelle Fitzgerald: try a few, see what you are comfy with
[2009/11/18 16:22] Jeeper Shim: thats what I use too
[2009/11/18 16:22] Dave Coyle: adelle: you know if there's a jira open with the meerkat folks on that? or is it a feature, not a bug?
[2009/11/18 16:22] Adelle Fitzgerald: the main viewers seem to be hippo, emerald, meerkat and the SL client
[2009/11/18 16:22] Adelle Fitzgerald: aparently its an opensim thing
[2009/11/18 16:22] Shez Oyen: The SL client crashes my video a lot
[2009/11/18 16:23] Adelle Fitzgerald: opensim isnt compatible with the newer snowglobe features or something, and Meerkat have incorporated some snowglobe stuff
[2009/11/18 16:23] Adelle Fitzgerald: but i dont know the full ins and outs of it
[2009/11/18 16:24] Dave Coyle: you know if they're still having that thursday meeting in Wright Plaza (the meerkat folks)?
[2009/11/18 16:24] Adelle Fitzgerald: i doubt it, they ahvent in a while, and I havent seen much of Baba lately
[2009/11/18 16:25] Adelle Fitzgerald: im pretty sure Krowa knows though, i should speak to him/her
[2009/11/18 16:25] Nebadon Izumi: i dont think so dave
[2009/11/18 16:25] Nebadon Izumi: ive not heard a peep from Baba in well over a month
[2009/11/18 16:26] Andress Renault: Oh I have a item for Wright plaza and I can't put it down, it will not rez even outside..Christmas tree lights, boxed.
[2009/11/18 16:26] Nebadon Izumi: k rezzing is probably off
[2009/11/18 16:26] Nebadon Izumi: i'll check it out in a bit
[2009/11/18 16:26] Andress Renault: Thanks Neb
[2009/11/18 16:27] Jeeper Shim: Is there a problem with the email you password to someone who has forgot thier password?
[2009/11/18 16:27] Dave Coyle: no, it should work
[2009/11/18 16:27] Dave Coyle: did you get either of the 2 emails?
[2009/11/18 16:28] Jeeper Shim: It wasn't me it was a friend.
[2009/11/18 16:28] Jeeper Shim: He hasn't got any emails
[2009/11/18 16:28] Jeeper Shim: This was 2 or 3 weeks ago now
[2009/11/18 16:29] Dave Coyle: if it still doesn't work, have them pop into IRC and mention it
[2009/11/18 16:29] Jeeper Shim: OK. I todl him to check into IRC but he hasn't done it yet
[2009/11/18 16:29] Jeeper Shim: Thanks
[2009/11/18 16:29] Andress Renault: Does anyone remember who was setting up the newspaper?
[2009/11/18 16:30] Dave Coyle: no problem
[2009/11/18 16:30] Adelle Fitzgerald: Bolle and Oddball
[2009/11/18 16:30] Dave Coyle: i don't. but here's last week's chat log: http://osgrid.org/wiki/TownHallMeetingLog20091112
[2009/11/18 16:30] Key Gruin: Andress, it was Oddball and bolle
[2009/11/18 16:30] Adelle Fitzgerald: bah, chat lag
[2009/11/18 16:30] Andress Renault: Ok thanks
[2009/11/18 16:30] Andress Renault: Thanks Dave I forgot about that.
[2009/11/18 16:31] Jeeper Shim: chat lag?? naaa that's SL
[2009/11/18 16:31] Jeeper Shim: lol
[2009/11/18 16:31] Dave Coyle: i think we need a better way to advertise interesting things to visit around the grid.
[2009/11/18 16:31] Dave Coyle: there's a lot to see as the grid grows
[2009/11/18 16:31] Dave Coyle: but finding it is hard
[2009/11/18 16:31] Dave Coyle: any ideas?
[2009/11/18 16:31] Andress Renault: I agree, I suggested a ..
[2009/11/18 16:31] Andress Renault: One of those classified softwares you can connect to your website
[2009/11/18 16:32] Shez Oyen: A weekly tour could be fun
[2009/11/18 16:32] Dave Coyle: well, i guess a section of the forums could do that. as can the web gallery.
[2009/11/18 16:32] Andress Renault: Breaks down into categories and folks just visit the areas they are interested in.
[2009/11/18 16:32] Shez Oyen: People could sign up to host a stop on the tour
[2009/11/18 16:32] Dave Coyle: i was thinking more of something in-world
[2009/11/18 16:32] Dave Coyle: shez: interesting idea. i like it.
[2009/11/18 16:33] Andress Renault: Hum..yes I was thinking about that as well..it is an interesting idea.
[2009/11/18 16:33] Lilia Elda: Yes that sounds fun
[2009/11/18 16:33] Shez Oyen: I'd love to tag along
[2009/11/18 16:33] Dave Coyle: now we just need volunteer(s) to organize it. :)
[2009/11/18 16:34] Amik Monda: maybe a wall at a plaza with the screenshots from the login screen , along with region names?
[2009/11/18 16:34] Andress Renault: I have alot of skills in administration and events..I'd be willing to.
[2009/11/18 16:34] Kally Rakan: a way for people to easily submit interesting places would probably help
[2009/11/18 16:34] Shez Oyen: I second the motion!
[2009/11/18 16:34] Andress Renault: Well the wall idea would fill up fast.
[2009/11/18 16:35] Key Gruin: I have been thinking how fun an amusement park would be
[2009/11/18 16:35] Shez Oyen: Yes, both are good ideas
[2009/11/18 16:35] Andress Renault: Who should I work with as far as staff?
[2009/11/18 16:36] Dave Coyle: andress: you pretty much have everything you need already. the plazas are open for community use as long as there isn't another even at that time.
[2009/11/18 16:36] Dave Coyle: so you could have one of those be a meeting point
[2009/11/18 16:36] Andress Renault: Ok not a problem..
[2009/11/18 16:36] Dave Coyle: then explore the grid and talk to region owners
[2009/11/18 16:36] Andress Renault: Im getting to know quite a few folks *looks at her friends list* :)
[2009/11/18 16:36] Dave Coyle: find if there's anyone who has an interesting place who'd be interested in hosting a stop on the tour
[2009/11/18 16:36] Dave Coyle: you could also ask in the forums
[2009/11/18 16:37] Dave Coyle: or on irc
[2009/11/18 16:37] Andress Renault: Ok *makes notes*
[2009/11/18 16:37] Dave Coyle: or on the wall on the main website
[2009/11/18 16:37] Dave Coyle: maybe talk to the people working on that newspaper, see if they'd be interested in covering it
[2009/11/18 16:37] Andress Renault: Will do..
[2009/11/18 16:38] Vin Seymore: who´s currently doing the pictures on the main website and on the login scrren?
[2009/11/18 16:38] Dave Coyle: there's also a way to create a page on the main website, but i don't know the mechanics of that.
[2009/11/18 16:38] Dave Coyle: and osgrid.org/wiki , too
[2009/11/18 16:38] Andress Renault: I was looking at that Ill check it out.
[2009/11/18 16:38] Dave Coyle: vin: i think they just rotate from the gallery
[2009/11/18 16:38] Adelle Fitzgerald: Vin, they are user submitted pictures
[2009/11/18 16:38] Dave Coyle: unless i'm mistaken
[2009/11/18 16:39] Andress Renault: Goodness almost too many ways to communicate.
[2009/11/18 16:39] dan banner: it would be nice if those picture had location/landmark on them
[2009/11/18 16:39] Adelle Fitzgerald: the pictures are picked up from here: http://www.osgrid.org/gallery
[2009/11/18 16:39] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Not Sure to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:39] Dave Coyle: yeah, i'd agree that there's too many. be different people have their preferences.
[2009/11/18 16:39] Vin Seymore: I see. thanks!
[2009/11/18 16:40] Dave Coyle: s/be/but/
[2009/11/18 16:40] Andress Renault: Well it would be easier on staff and watchers to simplify it.
[2009/11/18 16:40] Kally Rakan: lots of ways to communicate but it's still hard to answer questions like "Where do I find X?"
[2009/11/18 16:40] Andress Renault: Right your running all over
[2009/11/18 16:40] Dave Coyle: yeah, landmarks on those images would be cool. but that info isn't currently associated with the pictures.
[2009/11/18 16:40] Dave Coyle: yeah
[2009/11/18 16:41] Dave Coyle: no one-stop shopping for info
[2009/11/18 16:41] Key Gruin: it's up to the poster of the image
[2009/11/18 16:41] Andress Renault: I see that as a problem that could use some looking
[2009/11/18 16:41] Dave Coyle: and you can't consume all of those sources via RSS, so that makes it even harder
[2009/11/18 16:42] Andress Renault: Well folks like quick answers (when available) so ..IRC would be a one to keep.
[2009/11/18 16:42] Kally Rakan tries not to shoot dave for using the word "consume" in that context ;)
[2009/11/18 16:42] Dave Coyle: what's wrong with "consume"?
[2009/11/18 16:42] Dave Coyle: i didn't say "leverage synergies". ;)
[2009/11/18 16:43] Andress Renault: Then you want a place where information is persistance, categorized and easy to search.
[2009/11/18 16:43] Andress Renault: Wiki?
[2009/11/18 16:43] Andress Renault: Oh Im typing good tonight..ugg
[2009/11/18 16:43] Simulator Version shouts: OpenSim 0.6.8 (Dev)
git# d38f337 2009-10-20 14:41:20 -0700 (OS Debian GNU/Linux 5.0
) ChilTasks:True PhysPrim:True
[2009/11/18 16:43] Dave Coyle: personally, i like wikis. but a lot of people, for whatever reason, hate them.
[2009/11/18 16:43] Kally Rakan: it's not just the easy to search bit, it needs to be easy to submit
[2009/11/18 16:44] Adelle Fitzgerald: persistance is an issue with information on this grid, as things change so fast. one day there may be a freebie store the next its gone for good
[2009/11/18 16:44] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Eryn Galen to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:44] Andress Renault: Well most folks can deal with forums, but unless you have the right search word its a challenge.
[2009/11/18 16:44] Adelle Fitzgerald: in some cases it could be a full time job just for someone to keep up with what is and whats not
[2009/11/18 16:44] Dave Coyle: in-world search could use some improvement, IMO
[2009/11/18 16:45] Adelle Fitzgerald: +1 to search improvement
[2009/11/18 16:45] Andress Renault: Yes ..
[2009/11/18 16:45] Vin Seymore: agree
[2009/11/18 16:45] Andress Renault: Ive not tried to search for anything specific other then area's I know are there.
[2009/11/18 16:45] Adelle Fitzgerald: wasnt Fly-Man supposed to be wfinishing that?
[2009/11/18 16:45] Adelle Fitzgerald: *finishing
[2009/11/18 16:45] Dave Coyle: i dunno
[2009/11/18 16:45] Adelle Fitzgerald: kk
[2009/11/18 16:45] Eryn Galen: Hello all
[2009/11/18 16:45] Andress Renault: Hey Eryn
[2009/11/18 16:46] Dave Coyle: hi eryn
[2009/11/18 16:46] Jeeper Shim: I have to go. See ya all later
[2009/11/18 16:46] Dave Coyle: bye jeeper
[2009/11/18 16:46] Eryn Galen: bye Jeeps
[2009/11/18 16:46] Adelle Fitzgerald: bye Jeeper
[2009/11/18 16:46] Kally Rakan: even the meetings, the event calendar is hard to find
[2009/11/18 16:46] Kally Rakan: cya jeeper
[2009/11/18 16:46] Vin Seymore: bye
[2009/11/18 16:46] Andress Renault: But yes part of the problem would be about..you put in womans dresses..well how does the search engine know where to pick up the keywords, would that be in the region setup?
[2009/11/18 16:46] Dave Coyle: yeah, the event calendar on the website is... lacking
[2009/11/18 16:46] Kally Rakan: and it would be nice if people could submit to it easier
[2009/11/18 16:46] Adelle Fitzgerald: hi Eryn
[2009/11/18 16:47] Dave Coyle: speaking of calendars... i've been thinking about that lately
[2009/11/18 16:47] Eryn Galen: hiya
[2009/11/18 16:47] Dave Coyle: the current calendar on the website that comes with elgg has some limitations...
[2009/11/18 16:47] Dave Coyle: e.g. no recurring events
[2009/11/18 16:47] Andress Renault: Well having the event board in Isba has helped alot.
[2009/11/18 16:48] Dave Coyle: any thoughts on ditching the elgg calendar and using google calendar?
[2009/11/18 16:48] Andress Renault: Lbsa...too
[2009/11/18 16:48] Dave Coyle: actually, on second thought....
[2009/11/18 16:48] Vin Seymore: k guys, cu later. got to run now
[2009/11/18 16:48] Vin Seymore: bye
[2009/11/18 16:48] Andress Renault: Take care Fin
[2009/11/18 16:48] Dave Coyle: would be even better if the calendar was operated from in-world
[2009/11/18 16:48] Andress Renault: Vin
[2009/11/18 16:48] Adelle Fitzgerald: bye Vin
[2009/11/18 16:48] Eryn Galen: bye Vin
[2009/11/18 16:48] Dave Coyle: bye bin
[2009/11/18 16:48] Dave Coyle: so it wouldn't matter what the tech is behind the scenes
[2009/11/18 16:48] Andress Renault: How essential is it with the events announcement system.
[2009/11/18 16:49] Dave Coyle: how essential is what?
[2009/11/18 16:49] Andress Renault: The calender?
[2009/11/18 16:49] Dave Coyle: i'd say "very" in some respects
[2009/11/18 16:49] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Sunflower Marr to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 16:49] Kally Rakan: if the calendar supports ical and rss then it should be direcly useable both in and out world
[2009/11/18 16:50] Andress Renault: Yes that is true.
[2009/11/18 16:50] Dave Coyle: e.g. we have to do a lot of manual work each week to get the word out about these meetings
[2009/11/18 16:50] Key Gruin: the calendar should be usable by users, and not just admins
[2009/11/18 16:50] Dave Coyle: and i always forget to update the elgg calendar
[2009/11/18 16:50] Dave Coyle: so adelle has to do it for me
[2009/11/18 16:50] Dave Coyle: (thanks adelle)
[2009/11/18 16:50] Dave Coyle: computers should be doing that, not humans
[2009/11/18 16:50] Adelle Fitzgerald: ;)
[2009/11/18 16:50] Andress Renault: Is it fairly easy to link in the Goggle one?
[2009/11/18 16:50] Key Gruin: how about !osgridbot dave
[2009/11/18 16:51] Kally Rakan: I think it uses standard protocols
[2009/11/18 16:51] Dave Coyle: key, that's actually what got me thinking about this
[2009/11/18 16:51] Andress Renault grins at Key
[2009/11/18 16:51] Kally Rakan: btw, does the groups module support external messages?
[2009/11/18 16:51] Adelle Fitzgerald: it would eb awesome to use the inworld events search etc, but i dont think you can submit events using it. even in SL you ahve to submit events on the website
[2009/11/18 16:51] Dave Coyle: i wrote that irc bot to do event announcements
[2009/11/18 16:51] Dave Coyle: but pulling events out of the current system isn't the greatest
[2009/11/18 16:51] Key Gruin: aha!
[2009/11/18 16:51] Dave Coyle: so was thinking of how things could be better
[2009/11/18 16:52] Dave Coyle: kally: external in what sense?
[2009/11/18 16:52] Dave Coyle: google's calendar has a REST interface, so code can update it
[2009/11/18 16:53] Kally Rakan: I was thinking that if an external program could send a notice to specific groups then that could be tied into the calendar for automatic announcements of certain events
[2009/11/18 16:53] Key Gruin: I thought elgg messaging was connected to inworld messaging or was supposed to
[2009/11/18 16:53] Andress Renault: Well I have to take your word for that Im not techie to that level.
[2009/11/18 16:53] Kally Rakan: e.g. if the group module could accept REST calls
[2009/11/18 16:53] Dave Coyle: key: no, it's not
[2009/11/18 16:53] Dave Coyle: completely separate
[2009/11/18 16:53] Richardus Raymaker is Online
[2009/11/18 16:53] Key Gruin: ok
[2009/11/18 16:53] Adelle Fitzgerald: i like that idea Kally
[2009/11/18 16:54] Dave Coyle: it might have been intended to have the two connected, and that would be cool, but no one is working on that
[2009/11/18 16:54] Adelle Fitzgerald: that way for instance this meeting, it could automatically send a notice 1 hour prior to the event to all of the contacts in the group
[2009/11/18 16:55] Eryn Galen: Oh yes please. I keep forgetting, because its so late for me
[2009/11/18 16:55] Dave Coyle: yup. sounds good.
[2009/11/18 16:55] Andress Renault: I have an idea, can a survey be put up ..(switching tracks) to see what the opinons of folks are on the best communication systems, forum, irc, wiki etc. See what the majority says?
[2009/11/18 16:55] Kally Rakan: I think you'll find they're actually best at different things
[2009/11/18 16:56] Adelle Fitzgerald: ill speak with mcortez at some point and find out how viable that is
[2009/11/18 16:56] Amik Monda: at least the majority of the people who can find the survey... lol
[2009/11/18 16:56] Shez Oyen: Yes, I'd have to vote for all 3
[2009/11/18 16:56] Andress Renault: Well I get 95 % of my info in world.
[2009/11/18 16:57] Andress Renault: Everyone is different.
[2009/11/18 16:57] Key Gruin: folks in this lull of hte conversation can I try a topic change to something fairly important?
[2009/11/18 16:57] Shez Oyen: Sure
[2009/11/18 16:58] Dave Coyle: regarding the group IMs for meetings... peraps the offline messaging stuff can be hacked to inject IMs from an external source
[2009/11/18 16:58] Dave Coyle: go for it, key
[2009/11/18 16:58] Andress Renault has been rattling sorry..please
[2009/11/18 16:58] Key Gruin: well there needs to be a discussion on griefers
[2009/11/18 16:58] Key Gruin: given the recent happenings
[2009/11/18 16:58] Shez Oyen: <-- prepares tar and feathers
[2009/11/18 16:58] Andress Renault: I heard about a hacker as well
[2009/11/18 16:58] Amik Monda: ?
[2009/11/18 16:59] Eryn Galen: yes Key, I agree.
[2009/11/18 16:59] Key Gruin: Eryn, you had some thoughts, questions
[2009/11/18 16:59] Eryn Galen: I heard that those who did it were already banned
[2009/11/18 16:59] Eryn Galen: so my question is how could they have gotten in?
[2009/11/18 16:59] Nebadon Izumi: well its going ot happen
[2009/11/18 16:59] Eryn Galen: and what is done to prevent this in the future?
[2009/11/18 16:59] Nebadon Izumi: just report it asap
[2009/11/18 16:59] Nebadon Izumi: nothing
[2009/11/18 17:00] Andress Renault: Shove them up the chain so to speak.
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: you cant prevent it
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: short of not allowing anything to occur in your region
[2009/11/18 17:00] Shez Oyen: Keep everything backed up, often
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: no building / no scripting
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: ya
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: make backups everytime you change anytihng
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: do a backup
[2009/11/18 17:00] Shez Oyen: yep
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: do save IAR
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: save your inventory
[2009/11/18 17:00] Adelle Fitzgerald: the best thing you can do is turn of terraforming and building in your regions/parcels
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: OARS
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: SQL dumps
[2009/11/18 17:00] Adelle Fitzgerald: *turn off
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: you can also
[2009/11/18 17:00] Shez Oyen: I can't figure out SQL yet :/
[2009/11/18 17:00] Nebadon Izumi: use groups to deed land to a group
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: then make it group only scripts
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: group only building
[2009/11/18 17:01] Andress Renault: Use groups right..
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: make sure the group is not open to everyone
[2009/11/18 17:01] Eryn Galen: right, I know of that.
[2009/11/18 17:01] Key Gruin: so the responsibilities lie with the region owners to keep the grid safe?
[2009/11/18 17:01] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome nazaire finesmith to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:01] Amik Monda: may I ask what happened? I always wonder if I'm opening myself up to things by connecting a region
[2009/11/18 17:01] Eryn Galen: But what about banning IP addresses?
[2009/11/18 17:01] Kally Rakan: A tutorial on setting up regions to be resistant to griefers would be handy for those who aren't experienced landowners
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: well if you dont report it too us
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: theres nothing we can do
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: so ya basiclly if you see something happening
[2009/11/18 17:01] Nebadon Izumi: even not on your region
[2009/11/18 17:02] Nebadon Izumi: report it
[2009/11/18 17:02] Shez Oyen: lag.. first time I've seen that here.
[2009/11/18 17:02] Key Gruin: ok
[2009/11/18 17:02] Adelle Fitzgerald: there is nothing anyone can do to stop someone signing up and griefing a region
[2009/11/18 17:02] Nebadon Izumi: we dont have windows into everyones simulators
[2009/11/18 17:02] Dave Coyle: something i think would could come out of the community... there's an IP ban module in opensim now, which reads from a text file. perhaps a community-managed ban list would help.
[2009/11/18 17:02] Nebadon Izumi: i can see as much into daves sims as you all can
[2009/11/18 17:02] Nebadon Izumi: i have no more access than a basic user does
[2009/11/18 17:02] Dave Coyle: i know they SORBS, etc., spam block lists get some grief now
[2009/11/18 17:02] Eryn Galen: I am talking about ppl already banned
[2009/11/18 17:02] Dave Coyle: but in their early days when there were fewer people fighting spam, it helped
[2009/11/18 17:03] Eryn Galen: how the hell do they get in?
[2009/11/18 17:03] Kally Rakan: is there a page anywhere which lists all the things you can do to lock down a region?
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: start a new account
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: HG
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: theres many ways
[2009/11/18 17:03] Shez Oyen: anyone can come in.. that's part of the charm
[2009/11/18 17:03] Andress Renault: I was given a script for security I've not installed yet.
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: even if i IPtable block someone
[2009/11/18 17:03] Dave Coyle: eryn: are you referring to bans that happened earlier today?
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: all they have to do is get a new IP
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: and they can get back in
[2009/11/18 17:03] Shez Oyen: or spoof it
[2009/11/18 17:03] Eryn Galen: I am referring to the attack on Nas´s region because I was there after
[2009/11/18 17:03] Nebadon Izumi: i doubt many are IP spoofing
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: but they just go through proxy
[2009/11/18 17:04] Eryn Galen: Hiro checked the name
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: and they are right back in
[2009/11/18 17:04] Shez Oyen: that's good news
[2009/11/18 17:04] Eryn Galen: came up already banned
[2009/11/18 17:04] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Alexandra Sloat to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: Eryn
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: i suspect Hiro didnt do the ban proper
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: i think hiro initiated the ban via the database
[2009/11/18 17:04] Dave Coyle: my understanding is there's different levels of banning
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: which only blocks website access
[2009/11/18 17:04] Eryn Galen: ahh, okay
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: i took care of it
[2009/11/18 17:04] Andress Renault: I think best thing to do is do the best you can as far as setting up your groups, and report if they get over the fence.
[2009/11/18 17:04] Eryn Galen: thanks
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: but even doing my best
[2009/11/18 17:04] Nebadon Izumi: with complete IP block
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: i cant stop them
[2009/11/18 17:05] Key Gruin: you have to be careful not to ban innocent groups
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: they eventually come back
[2009/11/18 17:05] Andress Renault nods.
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: they just take their laptop to the nearest internet cafe
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: start a new account
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: or they wardrive
[2009/11/18 17:05] Nebadon Izumi: people are dicks
[2009/11/18 17:05] Dave Coyle: amik: people rezzed self-replicating prims on other regions
[2009/11/18 17:05] Shez Oyen: :/
[2009/11/18 17:05] Key Gruin: lol
[2009/11/18 17:05] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Warin Cascabel to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:05] Richardus Raymaker is Offline
[2009/11/18 17:05] Shez Oyen: So.. keep backups and go where angels fear to tread.
[2009/11/18 17:05] Andress Renault: Well alot of that is up to a community that is sharp on it too, they will get tired of it if the community is on it, you know what Im saying?
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: ya if someone griefs you
[2009/11/18 17:06] Adelle Fitzgerald: every region owner or estate manager has the ability to ban specific avatar names using the region/estate tools
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: and your sim is back up fixed in 10 mintues
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: chances are they wont greif you a second time
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: its no fun for them
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: if its not absolute destruction
[2009/11/18 17:06] Amik Monda: I'd like to learn as much about this as I can... hoping someone will assemble a page or so of details on how to handle security
[2009/11/18 17:06] Adelle Fitzgerald: the parcel ban doesnt work, but the estate ban does, for individual regions
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: they will occasionally catch people off gaurd
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: but i think most people are pretty good at making backups
[2009/11/18 17:06] Eryn Galen: some are, thats true unfortunately Neb
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: and if they arent
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: they will get a good lesson eventually
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: lol
[2009/11/18 17:06] Key Gruin: backups are the best thing you can do
[2009/11/18 17:06] Kally Rakan: can I suggest that someone experienced in setting up the security and group stuff write it down somewhere it can be found by the newbies?
[2009/11/18 17:06] Eryn Galen: chuckles. true again
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: the best way to learn
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: is lesson in pain
[2009/11/18 17:06] Nebadon Izumi: hehe
[2009/11/18 17:07] Eryn Galen: ouch, not always Neb
[2009/11/18 17:07] Andress Renault hides her backside.
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: lol
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: hehe ya im just kidding
[2009/11/18 17:07] Dave Coyle: kally: good idea.
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: but you will remember
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: if you get griefed
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: i can tell you that much
[2009/11/18 17:07] Eryn Galen: Okay, I support Kally´s idea
[2009/11/18 17:07] Nebadon Izumi: also if your running Linux
[2009/11/18 17:07] Eryn Galen: that would be good
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: i suggest googline Iptable ban
[2009/11/18 17:08] Dave Coyle: OARs are your friend. you can clean up a vandalized region in seconds if you have a recent backup.
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: learn how to ban IPs from your simulator
[2009/11/18 17:08] Andress Renault: Im keeping an eye on someone that may have brought trouble to OSGrid but Im not saying anything till I know for sure, no sense in causing a stir.
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: you can use "iftop"
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: to see bandwidth and connection info
[2009/11/18 17:08] Adelle Fitzgerald: it is possible to do automated backups of MySQL, for those that use it and it is not too hard to setup. i suggest anyone using MySQL should automate a daily backup
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: iptable bans work very well
[2009/11/18 17:08] Amik Monda: a related question: by having a region running from my home computer, am I leaving an opening into the computer?
[2009/11/18 17:08] Shez Oyen: Can you do oars from a batch with wild cards?
[2009/11/18 17:08] Dave Coyle: andress: good idea. especially since these meeting logs will be on the wiki later
[2009/11/18 17:08] Shez Oyen: When you have a lot of regions doing oars could be tedious
[2009/11/18 17:08] Nebadon Izumi: no Amik, just dont leave C# on in xengine
[2009/11/18 17:08] Dave Coyle: amik: yes
[2009/11/18 17:09] Warin Cascabel: It is, Shez. It is.
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: and also dont leave MRM on full blast
[2009/11/18 17:09] Adelle Fitzgerald: Shez, thats where automated MySQL backups come into play
[2009/11/18 17:09] Shez Oyen: :/
[2009/11/18 17:09] Andress Renault: Which answer is it? ;)
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: its relatively safe though, i doubt anyone can access your computer
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: if thats what you mean
[2009/11/18 17:09] Amik Monda: yes, thanks
[2009/11/18 17:09] Dave Coyle: oh, well what neb said. but no one has really done a security audit of opensim (that i'm aware of).
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: your operating system wont be exposed
[2009/11/18 17:09] Adelle Fitzgerald: if you have all of your regions running on one MySQL server it can back them up all at once
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: ya likely not fully Dave
[2009/11/18 17:09] Nebadon Izumi: but i think someone probably would have noticed
[2009/11/18 17:10] Dave Coyle: so no one really knows what holes exist
[2009/11/18 17:10] Nebadon Izumi: Intel does a lot of checking
[2009/11/18 17:10] Warin Cascabel: Also, doing a MySQL backup won't give you the message "Terminating archive creation since asset requster callback failed with System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
[2009/11/18 17:10] Shez Oyen: I am having a problem with the MySQL learning curve :/
[2009/11/18 17:10] Nebadon Izumi: ya theres a bit of learning curve with mysql
[2009/11/18 17:10] Andress Renault: Why I host..but not everyone can or wants to do that. Thats part of the fun of OSgrid.
[2009/11/18 17:10] Eryn Galen: One more related question: Is it possible for region owners to learn who has been banned?
[2009/11/18 17:10] Dave Coyle: amik: you running windows or linux at home?
[2009/11/18 17:10] Nebadon Izumi: Eryn no
[2009/11/18 17:10] Warin Cascabel: Adelle, have you put a forum post on how to do automated MySQL backups?
[2009/11/18 17:11] Adelle Fitzgerald: i would say it is no harder than running opensim, so if you can do that, you can use MySQL
[2009/11/18 17:11] Nebadon Izumi: we probably wont share it publicly
[2009/11/18 17:11] Amik Monda: Dave- Win XP
[2009/11/18 17:11] Kally Rakan: I freely admit I don't know anything about setting up group owned land and such so a page with the details for how to secure a region with it would be very useful
[2009/11/18 17:11] Shez Oyen: I got it installed and working.. it's getting the ini's down that's vexing me
[2009/11/18 17:11] Nebadon Izumi: unless you hear us mention it on IRC
[2009/11/18 17:11] Adelle Fitzgerald: i havent Warin, as I only know how to set them up on windows, using the MySQL administrator
[2009/11/18 17:11] Warin Cascabel: Ah.
[2009/11/18 17:11] Key Gruin: well it's good to know there arent security back doors into opensim
[2009/11/18 17:11] Adelle Fitzgerald: there are a lot of different ways you can go about it
[2009/11/18 17:11] Andress Renault: Well I need to scoot all Ill work up the Tour Guide info and make sure its known.
[2009/11/18 17:11] Adelle Fitzgerald: so i suggest use google
[2009/11/18 17:11] Dave Coyle: amik: admittedly i don't know a lot about windows. on linux i'd say run opensim as it's own user to decrease the amount of bad stuff which could be done on a machine if opensim was ever cracked
[2009/11/18 17:11] Nebadon Izumi: ive not heard of anyones system being comprimised by opensim
[2009/11/18 17:11] Warin Cascabel: Bye, Andress
[2009/11/18 17:11] Key Gruin waves to Andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Dave Coyle: not sure if there's something similar in windows
[2009/11/18 17:12] Adelle Fitzgerald: bye Andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Kally Rakan: bye andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Eryn Galen: bye Andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Dave Coyle: by andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Shez Oyen: BB Andress
[2009/11/18 17:12] Nebadon Izumi: Windows Server is as secure as linux is IMHO
[2009/11/18 17:12] Nebadon Izumi: generally when windows servers are comprimised
[2009/11/18 17:12] Nebadon Izumi: its because of something you did
[2009/11/18 17:12] Nebadon Izumi: or something you installed
[2009/11/18 17:12] Warin Cascabel: Like IIS.
[2009/11/18 17:12] Nebadon Izumi: a fresh windows server box is pretty unhackable
[2009/11/18 17:12] Kally Rakan: if you're using unix then a chroot/jail/Xen VM setup should make you feel better :)
[2009/11/18 17:12] Dave Coyle: kally: yup
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: just be careful
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: 99% of the time when systems are comprimised
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: its not because they hacked your system
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: its because someone read an email
[2009/11/18 17:13] Key Gruin: poor password
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: or found a file on your hard drive a friend
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: ya
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: poor passowrd
[2009/11/18 17:13] Nebadon Izumi: or you install a trojan
[2009/11/18 17:14] Shez Oyen: OK.. I'm pretty fried..lot's of excellent info and links, I'm going home to ponder it all. See you kids later :)
[2009/11/18 17:14] Nebadon Izumi: and usually requires you be sitting at the machine
[2009/11/18 17:14] Dave Coyle: bye shez
[2009/11/18 17:14] Warin Cascabel: Night, Shez
[2009/11/18 17:14] Dave Coyle: oh, hey, look at the time
[2009/11/18 17:14] Eryn Galen: Coming back to Kally´s suggestion. Is there someone who could write a "how to" for security on regions?
[2009/11/18 17:14] Eryn Galen: bye Shez
[2009/11/18 17:14] Adelle Fitzgerald: bye Shez
[2009/11/18 17:14] Kally Rakan: cya shez
[2009/11/18 17:14] Nebadon Izumi: ya we can probably start something on the wiki
[2009/11/18 17:14] Nebadon Izumi: to help people get scure
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: secure, make sure they dont have holes open
[2009/11/18 17:15] Dave Coyle: ++ on the wiki idea
[2009/11/18 17:15] Amik Monda: thanks, Neb
[2009/11/18 17:15] Eryn Galen: thank you Neb
[2009/11/18 17:15] Adelle Fitzgerald: oh! that reminds me, i have never been able to find a link to the osgrid wiki from the elgg site
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: anyone can register to use the wiki
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: hacking into the core OS is extremely difficult
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: and add too it also
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: http://osgrid.org/wiki
[2009/11/18 17:15] Adelle Fitzgerald: it would be handy to have it on one of the menus
[2009/11/18 17:15] Dave Coyle: ah, good call
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: ya
[2009/11/18 17:15] Dave Coyle: i'll add it
[2009/11/18 17:15] Warin Cascabel: yes
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: i never got around to it
[2009/11/18 17:15] Nebadon Izumi: cause everything was sort of in limbo
[2009/11/18 17:16] Nebadon Izumi: i wasnt sure if we were keeping Elgg
[2009/11/18 17:16] Adelle Fitzgerald: and maybe the same for the osgrid gallery too
[2009/11/18 17:16] Nebadon Izumi: i wasnt sure if we were going to integrate the wiki into Elgg
[2009/11/18 17:16] Eryn Galen: that does have a link
[2009/11/18 17:16] Nebadon Izumi: so i sorta left it off
[2009/11/18 17:16] Adelle Fitzgerald: it does, Eryn?
[2009/11/18 17:16] Kally Rakan: btw, I think the region security page should talk about the region security only. OS security is orthogonal and should have seperate pages for the respective systems
[2009/11/18 17:16] Eryn Galen: http://www.osgrid.org/elgg/pg/utilities/oldsite
[2009/11/18 17:16] Adelle Fitzgerald: ahh under old site links
[2009/11/18 17:17] Eryn Galen: yup
[2009/11/18 17:17] Kally Rakan: just so we don't have bits of region security mixed with windows and unix in a mishmash :)
[2009/11/18 17:17] Adelle Fitzgerald: maybe remove that 'old site links' and place the osgrid gallery in a more prominant place on the menus. can you sort that dave?
[2009/11/18 17:18] Dave Coyle: yup
[2009/11/18 17:18] Key Gruin: I like the original gallery much more than the elgg one
[2009/11/18 17:18] Dave Coyle: me too
[2009/11/18 17:18] Kally Rakan: "This is how to secure your region", "This is how to clean up after an attack" and "This is what you need to backup and how" maybe?
[2009/11/18 17:18] Warin Cascabel: Good ideas.
[2009/11/18 17:18] Adelle Fitzgerald: i see the elgg galleries and the osgrid gallery as different tools, the galleries on the elgg site are personal to people, wheras the osgrid gallery seems more communal
[2009/11/18 17:19] Key Gruin: the elgg gallery isn't very versatile, can't sort images
[2009/11/18 17:19] Adelle Fitzgerald: things like my speedbuild galleries should be ont he communal gallery, not in my personal galleries
[2009/11/18 17:20] Adelle Fitzgerald: also whilst talking about the galleries, would there be a way to mark specific pictures for the login screen instead of having them all randomly displayed?
[2009/11/18 17:21] Key Gruin: put them in an album specifically for that
[2009/11/18 17:21] Eryn Galen: That is a good suggestion Adelle
[2009/11/18 17:21] Key Gruin: put copies that is
[2009/11/18 17:21] Adelle Fitzgerald: that way people can mark their better pictures for the login screen
[2009/11/18 17:21] Eryn Galen: if there is a possibility of a shared by all album
[2009/11/18 17:21] Adelle Fitzgerald: or unmark any they dont want on the login screen
[2009/11/18 17:22] Kally Rakan: is there a tagging system for images?
[2009/11/18 17:22] Adelle Fitzgerald: there is in elgg
[2009/11/18 17:22] Warin Cascabel: I think there may be
[2009/11/18 17:22] Key Gruin: I am still using the old style gallery on my sites, so not that familiar with G2
[2009/11/18 17:22] Eryn Galen: But its easier to mark or unmark in an album you are already editing than put another copy somewhere else I think
[2009/11/18 17:22] Adelle Fitzgerald: but i dont think so on the osgrid gallery
[2009/11/18 17:23] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Trex Blessed to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:23] Kally Rakan: possibly make a small number of offical tags for things like "Front page" and "Region Showcase"?
[2009/11/18 17:23] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Boxster Karu to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:24] Eryn Galen: Hi Trex
[2009/11/18 17:24] Eryn Galen: Hi Boxter
[2009/11/18 17:25] Trex Blessed: greetings
[2009/11/18 17:25] Boxster Karu: Hi Eryn
[2009/11/18 17:25] Warin Cascabel: Hello, Trex and Boxster
[2009/11/18 17:25] Boxster Karu: Hello Warin
[2009/11/18 17:25] Adelle Fitzgerald: hi Trex, Boxy
[2009/11/18 17:25] Dave Coyle: so we're about 30 mins over our usual 1 hour time for the meeting... any last topics people would like to bring up?
[2009/11/18 17:25] Boxster Karu: hi Adelle
[2009/11/18 17:25] Dave Coyle: hi trx, boxster
[2009/11/18 17:25] Dave Coyle: *trex
[2009/11/18 17:26] Boxster Karu: hi Dave
[2009/11/18 17:26] Trex Blessed: thought i was only 30 minutes late
[2009/11/18 17:26] Dave Coyle: no, 00:00 UTC
[2009/11/18 17:26] Warin Cascabel: For once, someone later than me. :)
[2009/11/18 17:26] Dave Coyle: hehe
[2009/11/18 17:26] Eryn Galen: hehe
[2009/11/18 17:26] Warin Cascabel: But I have a good excuse this time, I was buying an android.
[2009/11/18 17:26] Key Gruin: LOL@Warin :)
[2009/11/18 17:26] Trex Blessed: well early for next meeting
[2009/11/18 17:26] Warin Cascabel: haha
[2009/11/18 17:26] Amik Monda: one thing... I'd like to thank everyone for what they're doing; I'm really enjoying knowing you all and learning
[2009/11/18 17:26] Dave Coyle: if you want to get pre-meeting announcements, join the "OSGrid Town Hall Meeting" group
[2009/11/18 17:27] Dave Coyle: i send out reminders and links to the logs afterwards
[2009/11/18 17:27] Dave Coyle: yes, and thank you all for coming
[2009/11/18 17:27] Trex Blessed gestures for a bar maid
[2009/11/18 17:27] Nebadon Izumi: ya thanks for coming guys
[2009/11/18 17:27] Nebadon Izumi: good stuff
[2009/11/18 17:27] Dave Coyle: yes, we need NPC bartenders
[2009/11/18 17:27] Nebadon Izumi: heh ya
[2009/11/18 17:27] Nebadon Izumi: that would be cool
[2009/11/18 17:27] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Kissmy Mubyrrah to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:27] Nebadon Izumi: i can make more drinks
[2009/11/18 17:27] Adelle Fitzgerald: haha
[2009/11/18 17:28] Dave Coyle: so, meeting adjourned. i'll have the logs up on the wiki in a little bit.
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: if someone can provide the bartender scripts
[2009/11/18 17:28] Kally Rakan: actually, how about NPC aides that you can IM for assistance
[2009/11/18 17:28] Trex Blessed: so, who won?
[2009/11/18 17:28] Kally Rakan: like an IRC bot
[2009/11/18 17:28] Warin Cascabel: I guess I'll have to read Hiro's how-to guide on making libomv bots again.
[2009/11/18 17:28] Dave Coyle: ...at http://osgrid.org/wiki/TownHallMeeting
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: about about the OSSL NPC functions?
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: or was that MRM?
[2009/11/18 17:28] Warin Cascabel: No, that was an external bot
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: didnt Adam make script functions
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: for NPC
[2009/11/18 17:28] Nebadon Izumi: he was testing them at Zaius Plaza while back
[2009/11/18 17:29] Dave Coyle: kally: i'd like that
[2009/11/18 17:29] Warin Cascabel: The OSSL bots can appear, speak and disappear, but moving is problematic
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: also i think Diva has a bot module too
[2009/11/18 17:29] Warin Cascabel: It just creates an undeletable plywood box at their target.
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: lets talk to Diva
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: she has some bots going
[2009/11/18 17:29] Warin Cascabel: Cool.
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: i can probably get her to give us something
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: shes working on some big transportation project
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: they are building replica of train station in opensim
[2009/11/18 17:29] Dave Coyle: nice
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: diva hired Yojne
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: for building prims
[2009/11/18 17:29] Nebadon Izumi: ive been helping her out get stuff into opensim
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: but they are using NPC
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: to populate the sim
[2009/11/18 17:30] Bade Plaza TeleHUB: Everyone please welcome Blonde Jaxxon to the 7th floor Lounge.
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: i saw screenshots of 300 bots
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: and mention of 500
[2009/11/18 17:30] Warin Cascabel: 300? THIS IS CYBERSPARTA!
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: lol
[2009/11/18 17:30] Dave Coyle: controlled from a HUD, IIRC
[2009/11/18 17:30] Trex Blessed: 300 bots? can someone has time on their hands
[2009/11/18 17:30] Nebadon Izumi: she mentioned that it was a module
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: and not external bots
[2009/11/18 17:31] Trex Blessed: can=damn
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: the simulator was generating the bots
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: i want the agent smith pile on module
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: so when you enter my sim 100 agent smiths pile on top of you
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: lol
[2009/11/18 17:31] Dave Coyle: i have to run. thanks again to everyone for coming out. i'll see you around.
[2009/11/18 17:31] Kally Rakan: even if the bots only registered as something you could IM, they're be useful
[2009/11/18 17:31] Warin Cascabel: Bye, Dave
[2009/11/18 17:31] Trex Blessed: damn, funny
[2009/11/18 17:31] Kally Rakan: cya dave
[2009/11/18 17:31] Nebadon Izumi: ya definatly
[2009/11/18 17:32] Eryn Galen: bye Dave, thanks
[2009/11/18 17:32] Nebadon Izumi: bar tender is a good start
[2009/11/18 17:32] Nebadon Izumi: for sure
