This messag eis for firestorm users with a version above 7.1.x
For those who are using version 7.1.9 or later, please go to the Help menu → Whitelist Adviser to see the specific files/folders and their paths on your computer. These are what you will whitelist (add to the exclusion list). If you're unable to see that in the viewer, here is a more general list:
The viewer:
On Windows the viewer install folder is by default
64-bit - C:\Program Files\Firestorm-Releasex64
32-bit - C:\Program Files\Firestorm-Release
32-bit on x64 - C:\Program Files (x86)\Firestorm-Release
Find the folder above that applies to you, and whitelist it.
Inside that same folder, whitelist all these items individually:
the viewer itself (firestorm.exe),
slplugin.exe,
slvoice.exe.
Inside the llplugin folder:
dullahan_host.exe.
You also need to add SLVoice.exe to your Firewall's Allow list
On Mac: the Firestorm application (normally in your Applications folder)
On Linux: the executable files in /path/to/installation/bin/ (do-not-directly-run-firestorm-bin, dullahan_host, SLPlugin and SLVoice)
The cache folder
In its default location, the folder is hidden on most OSs. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Now you need to locate the cache folder:
Windows 64-bit: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm_x64
Windows 32-bit: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm
Mac: /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Caches/Firestorm
Linux: /home/[USERNAME]/.firestorm_x64/cache
NOTE: If you have moved your cache to a custom location, whitelist that.
The Settings folder
In its default location, the folder is hidden on most OSs. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Now you need to locate the settings folder:
Windows 64-bit: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm_x64
Windows 32-bit: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm
Mac: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Firestorm
Linux: /home/[USERNAME]/.firestorm_x64 (which also contains the cache)
NOTE: If you have moved your settings to a custom location, whitelist that.
The Chat Transcripts folder
In its default location, this is the same as the Settings folder. If you have relocated your chat files, then note that path.
REBOOT your computer at this time.
Run the viewer to ensure that it is working correctly; do a test of search and voice to ensure that both work, checking that the respective plugins get loaded. LOG OUT of the viewer. Re-enable your anti-virus software if you disabled it, and run the viewer again, repeating the tests above. Windows Users: Turn Off Microsoft Control Flow (for Firestorm)
(New important info as of Januari 2025)
Microsoft's Control Flow feature is known to slow down data flow on your computer. This can seriously affect viewer performance.
In the search box on the taskbar, type Windows Security, and then select it from the results. Select App & browser control. Under Exploit protection, select Exploit protection settings. Click Program settings. Click Add Program to customize & choose the Firestorm exe. Select Edit. For the Control Flow Guard option, tick Override System Settings and Off. Restart your computer.
